She called Mason to meet her at her house, and Bianca, so she could pick up her pets and take them to her parents’ house.
She arrived at her house, skidding to a halt. Mason came running, and got Erin out. “Do I put him in your bed?”
“Yes. I will get my medical bag. Can you get hot water? Towels, hand sanitizer…”
“What happened?” Mason said.
“I don’t know…I found him like this outside the Vet’s. There were some guys there…you should probably tell everyone not to go outside or something. Oh, my god. Shit, shit…” She just carried everything from the linen closet inside her room.
“What?”
“He needs an x-ray.” She said while ripping his shirt open. He was black and purple under it.
“Pierce. You can’t take him to the hospital. They’ll ask questions we cannot answer. Not yet anyway. You’re gonna have to treat him here, as much as you can. He’ll heal enough by tomorrow morning. We can say he fell off the roof or something.”
“Are you fucking kidding me?”
“Just do it. He will heal enough by tomorrow evening, we can say we were playing with a Frisbee, it flew to the roof, and he tried to get it, rolled over the second story, and well yeah. Otherwise we get the authorities involved, and how do you wanna explain that someone beat him to death, but he’s healing at a very, very unusual rate. You can’t explain why the bruises on his face disappear overnight.” He reasoned with her while helping her patch him up.
Pierce finished her job, and she was covered in blood and sweat. “You’re gonna have to tell everybody we’re on lockdown Mason. Tomorrow, I’ll go to the hospital with him, and we’ll stay there with John. Nobody has to go on a killing rampage. That’s probably what they want. We’ll have to figure out their next move when Erin wakes up.”
“Actually, I’ve got Robert on that already. Everyone is under direct others to stay inside. Everybody is at Mom’s. Charlie will stay with Emma and Robert. Mom and Dad have been notified, but they can’t come yet—they’re hold up a few packs over. The pack wants to make sure they’ll be okay. Harrison and Adrian are picking me up soon, do you need anything?”
“No, I’m fine, just make sure my pets are okay?”
“Of course. By the way, don’t be shy about sleeping with him tonight. Being close to our mates makes healing faster.” He said as he was heading out.
“What?” She said a little startled as she walked him out.
“Is part of the ceremony…I’m not sure about the science behind it, I just know it works. Something about the bites, I mean—he bit you and made it better when you mated right?”
“Yeah.” She nodded also.
“There you go. Is like that. You don’t have to lick him all over, just make sure you’re close. One more thing, he might sprout fur in the middle of the night—as a defense mechanism, don’t be alarmed. It just means he is healing properly.”
Pierce made some tea, and settled on a chair next to Erin, and did some work on her lap top. She emailed Erin’s assistant about his accident, and the camp site accident. He replied with hopes of a soon recovery and not to worry, that their boss was more than happy with his results and wouldn’t mind giving him an extended holiday. Wink, wink. He also mentioned the possibility of various gifts being sent to the hospital or her house in the next hours.
At three in the morning, she was still drinking tea and doing some research on cardiomyopathy, and Erin turned around, laid face down in wolf-form, and every now and then some odd whining, painful sound will come from within his chest. It was the wee hours of the morning when Pierce gave up and snuggled a little next to him, almost immediately, he changed back to human form and spooned her close to him. The whining stopped subsequently, his breathing was better, and she could feel the regular betting of his heart on his wrist, because his arm was like an iron lock around her.
