No one in my world is born with their powers. You usually get them around when you start to hit puberty. That way, you are old enough to understand your power, and smart enough to learn to control and strengthen it.

However, I don't know what my power is yet. Some call me a "late bloomer", while others say I have it, and I just don't know it yet. Some even say that I don't have powers at all. That I'm one of those rarities who are born without powers in their veins. That I'm just... human. Normal. Nothing.

I dont know what I believe, really. It's confusing. I want to go to school to learn about my powers. But, I only go to school for the courses you have to take other than your powers. Like World History, or Science. I also take extracurricular activities, which are Photography, and Anatomy. The second one isnt really my choice though. Its what my mom wants. I just wish I could go to school with my powers, and learn to be something.

I am thinking this as I put my shoes on in the morning, and I think very often, I hear my mom call my name. "Dylin, sweetie, can you come downstairs for a moment?" She says loud enough for me to hear from upstairs. "Coming!" I say as I grab my bag and walk downstairs. It looks like an overcast day, so I grab my hat before I shut my door.

"Morning." I say as I walk into the kitchen, and grab an apple from the fridge. "Morning sweetie, I need you to go get the mail today, can you do that?" She says after hugging me quickly, in a rush to get to work. "Sure. Of course." I say, as I'm already halfway through the door. I come back in, and set the mail on the counter, as she says her goodbye and heads out the door to work.

I put my hat on, and walk to school, as the sun rises.

-At School-

Most of the day had passed, and I am at my locker, putting my stuff away. Before I shut it, I grab my book, and start walking down the hall. I get outside, where the courtyard is, and everyone hangs out after school. A guy that's in one of my classes looks up from his book to look at me. He smiles, and I wave back, and go about my business.

I walk past a group of girls, trying to ignore them. They are the popular girls, if that's what you'll call it. People call them the "Power Squad". They are the group of people that have the most unique and famous powers there are. And the leader, she has the best. Or the worst, depending on how you think of it. She has Power Mimicry. One of the rarest powers one can get. She can absorb or copy another's powers. So, in other words, she has the ability to have any power to her choosing. She'll go straight to the Capital Building as soon as she's done with school. She'll end up being one of the most important people there. There have only been a handful of people who get that power, and the only living person other than her is also in the Capital Building.. and she's looking at me.

As I walk past, she teleports in front of me and I jerk back. "What do you want Ash?" I ask, in a lowered voice. She wrinkles her nose in response. "Oh, girls' got guts today, huh. Wow, I wish I could say it was impressive, but it's not." She pauses to look at her group of friends, then looks back. "Just like the rest of your sorry little life." She exclaims, louder than before, so people around us notice. I stay silent, not knowing what to say back. "Awe, are you scared? Your scared, aren't you? Poor baby. Well, at least I wish I could say that's what you are since you don't have any powers, but, you aren't. Your going to a school you don't even have to. I feel so sorry for you. Oh, oh wait, no I don't." She continues on, laughing along with all of her friends.

"Alright, that's enough, Ash. Come on. Stop." A voice says behind me. I turn around, and look up, to find the same guy that waved at me before. "Awe, its Jay to the rescue. What? You don't like it when I tease the nobody? Why not?" She says, teasing. That one hit me. "Okay, Ash, seriousl-" he gets cut off by her. "Oh come on Jay. Have some fun once in a while! Stop protecting her and join in, I promise its fun!" She says enticingly, before pushing my shoulder hard, causing me to stagger. "Okay, that's it, STOP!" He yells, before grabbing my arm and pulling me away. Before we go he turns to her and says, "You know, sometimes you can be a real bitch!" And walks with me to the front of the school, not saying a word.

Finally, when we stop, he turns to me and asks if I'm okay. I nod, not knowing exactly what just happened. "So, um.. what exactly was that?" I ask, confused. "Let's not talk about it. She was totally out of line and I didn't want to see that." He says, smiling down at me. I finally for the first time got an actually good look at him. He has light blue eyes, tan skin, he's tall, I'd say around 6'1, and he has very dark hair, with almost a blue sheen to it.

"Um, well, thanks for that." I manage to say shyly. "Oh, by the way, I'm Jay." He says. "I'm Dylin." I say, looking down at my feet. "Dylin. I like that name." He says, and I look up, smiling. "Well, um, I have to get home, so, I guess I'll see you around." I say, looking at the time. "Okay, See ya around. Bye." He says, as we part. I look back, and I see him fly off. 'Oh, so he can fly.' I think to myself. 'That explains the name "Jay".'

*JAY' S POV*

I look up and I see a girl I recognise from a couple of my classes. She looks to be around 5'2, and she has black tights on, black shorts, a grey shirt, and a black beanie on, along with a matching bag, that both have the schools logo on it; two golden lines with squares on either sides. Her hair usually looks brown, but today it seems almost black, most likely because of the clouds. She is reading a book, and looks up at me. I wave, and she smiles, and I look back down at my book.

Then I hear a commotion, and look up to, of course, see Ash teasing the girl, with her and all of her cocky friends surrounding her. I've had enough, and I walk up to them, and get the girl out of there. We walk to the front of campus, and talk for a bit. Her name is Dylin. I like it. It's different. I know it would be different if she had her powers, but, I like it still. I almost don't like that our names growing up are temporary, until we get our powers, so when we get them, we also get names "more suited" for us, according to our powers. That why everyone gets a marking after they're born. It's a kind of number, but not. It can be anything. Then, after you get your powers, you can turn that marking into whatever you what it to look like. I got a half-circle, so, I turned it into a cloud, and added a bird, kind of like my name. We parted ways shortly, and I flew off.
