*DYLIN'S POV*
I wake up on the couch, the early morning Sun hitting my face. The room is bright and I squint as I sit up, my back cracking. I rub my tired eyes, and stand to go up to my room, but notice something on my kitchen counter. I walk over, grabbing the sheet of paper, holding it up.
Dylin,
Thank you for a wonderful day. I would love to
spend more time with you. I look forward to seeing you in class
today, and hope we talk again soon.
P.S. Your mom must've come home before I left, because
I saw a note taped to your fridge for you.
- Jay
The last sentence caused my smile to fade, and I turn towards the fridge.
Baby,
I am sorry to do this to you again, but
I had to take a shift on Friday night. I won't be home
for your birthday. I promise I'll make it up to you.
I love you.
- Mom
I grit my teeth, fighting back tears. "As always." I whisper to myself. "'I'll make it up to you.' When has that ever been true." I rip the paper off of the fridge and crumple it up, tossing it on the floor. My phone goes off and I pick it up off the counter. "Crap! I'm gonna be late!" I sprint up the stairs and throw on clothes, and run to the shed to try and find something. I uncover Dahlia's skateboard, but toss it aside, seeing it has a missing wheel, finding nothing else. I give up and sprint to school, making it for the second half of first period.
Most of the day goes by as usual, and then I get called to the principal's office.
"Mr. Daley?" I lightly knock on the door, and I see a full room. Jay, Coach Merritt, Ash, and the two guys, Robin and Jesse are all sitting in chairs across from Principal Daley, who's stern face lightens as I walk in.
"Ah, Ms. Starres, please, sit down. We must discuss the incident on Friday afternoon." He stands up, greets me, and motions me to sit next to coach. "Now, Coach Merritt has already filled me in with the details and I have personally looked at the recordings of the security cameras, but I would like you to be here for the decision of the final punishment of these two young men and their accomplice who they claim provoked them." Robin gives me a hard stare as the principal speaks, while Jesse seems more concerned. I sit uneasily, until coach rests his hand on my shoulder in reassurance.
I nod, and the principal sits down once more, and begins.
"Now. Ash. I have heard many things in these halls about you, but never would I have guessed that you could be behind such a horrible scheme. I have decided that you will get two weeks of Off of School Suspension, and another week of In School Suspension." Ash tries to speak but Mr. Daley just puts his hand up so he can keep talking. "Robin and Jesse. You two will also get two weeks of OSS and one week of ISS, along with the addition of being cut from the football team, effective immediately."
At that, the two of them outrage and start yelling. "What? No that's crazy! Coach, you gotta help us!" Jesse yells, and at that they both turn to coach with pleading eyes.
"It wasn't the principal who decided that. It was me." Everyone is astonished at that, and coach stands. "What you boys need to learn is decency and respect. What you two did on Friday was beyond disrespectful. It was an embarrassment to the team. If you boys want to step foot on that field ever again, you need to learn how to be men." Coach finishes, and ushers them out of the office, with Ash trailing behind so they can collect their stuff from school.
