So if you're reading this, that probably means you at least kinda like my story, so I just want to say thank you for even considering reading my book. :p

Jacob woke up the next morning in his dorm. He sighed, still confused by his new school. Jake looked around his room and noticed a small flashing blue light, next to a silver drawer in the wall. He hopped out of bed and looked inside it. Jake pulled out a black messenger bag, and 5 textbooks, each bound with the same red leather as his story book. Each of the covers had writing in gold letters, Book of Swordplay, Prince's 101, Potions for Dummies, 506 Spells for Beginning Wizards, and Picking your Purrfect companion.

Jake sighed again as he packed his books into his new bag. He hesitantly picked up his storybook and shoved it in as well. Grabbing his key, Jake gave a sad look to his old cello in the corner, and walked out the door.

Jacob's first class was Animal communications with Miss White. Ha, like Snow White. Jake joked in his head; little did he know, he was actually right.

The class was meeting outside, in the field, by a small lake. There were a few kids sitting in the grass, but what really caught Jake's attention was the beautiful mermaid at the edge of the water. She had dark red hair, and warm brown eyes behind big framed glasses. Her lavender tail was splashing out of the water.

"H-hey" Jake stuttered, eyes flicking between her and her tail.

"Hi", she responded, studying his face closely. Then muttered "You look like Prince Charming".

"What was that?", Jake asked.

"Oh nothing, I'm Raelyn, you must be Jacob".

"Y-yeah, but you can call me Jake. Um, n-nice to meet you". Jake was still a little shocked because he has never seen a mermaid before. Raelyn was about to say something else when they noticed a woman rushing over. She had dark, black hair, dark eyes, and pale skin. She quickly sat on a stool under the nearby tree. The students moved closer and waited for their teacher to catch her breath.

"Sorry I'm late children", she breathed out, "For those of you that don't know, I am Miss White, your Animal Communications teacher". Jacob finally realized his teacher was the actual Snow White herself, and gasped to himself. A couple students gave him a funny look, but quickly turned their attention back to their teacher.

"So let's quickly get through attendance... Kayla?"

"Yo!", a girl in the back answered.
"Jacob?"
"H-here"
"Raelyn"
"Hi"
"Olivia"
"Here", this girl stole Jake's attention for a minute. At first glance, you wouldn't notice the little horns that poked out of her curly, light brown hair. Or her sharp canines, that looked really cute when she smiled. Olivia reminded Jake of the beast for some reason.
"Elizabeth", Miss White interrupted his thoughts.
"Here", another girl with glasses and shoulder length, brown hair.
"Dai... -Quan?" Miss White called again, more hesitantly with this name.
"Hmm, wha- oh! Here!", a boy called out, dragging out the 'e'. He had beautiful, dark skin, hazel eyes, and short brown hair. Dai-Quan was sitting next to Elizabeth and almost seemed to be staring at Jake. Jake made a slightly confused face before turning back to his teacher. She finished up her attendance and clapped her hands together.

"Alright!, I would just like to say I am so excited to be your teacher this year. As you all obviously know, today is only the first day of school, so we are going to start slow".
Miss White then looked up a bit, into the tree, and whistled a few notes. A large owl flew down from the tree, landing on her arm, and a fawn stood up walking out from behind the tree, almost out of no where.
"Soon you will all be able to call on many different animals to help you, and eventually- pick a familiar to stay with you forever".
Some of the students hadn't seemed very interested in the lesson anymore. Miss White sighed and somewhat mumbled-
"I supposed not all familiars are as cute as these", and clicked her tongue.
Quickly, a rat ran down the tree trunk, and a crow flew down and landed on the ground. The bored students perked up while a few others made disgusted faces.
"Anyway", Miss White started again, "that's just about all the time we have left today. I'll see you all tomorrow, same time. Don't be late, and don't forget your textbooks!" She chirped. "Alright, you're dismissed".
Every one started to stand and walk to our next class. Olivia, Elizabeth, and Dai-Quan were all still standing by Raelyn, just talking. Raelyn seemed to wave at Jacob.
"Hey, Jake! Over here" she called.
He hesitated, then pointed to himself and mouthed the word 'me' to her.
"Yes you silly", she responded. Dai-Quan giggled and gave him a small wave.
Jake walked over, somewhat awkwardly, and waved to everyone else.
"H-hi" he said quietly.
Dai-Quan shoved himself in front and stuck his hand out to shake, bending over ever-so slightly.
"Hi! I'm Dai-Quan, but you can call me DQ if you want" he said very enthusiastically.
"Oh, um, n-nice to meet you" Jake replied politely.
Elizabeth stepped a little closer,
"Hi, I'm Lizzy, this is Liv" she said, pointing at Olivia who smiled, "and you already meet Rae" gesturing to Raelyn in the lake.
"It's uh, great to meet all of you" Jake replied, still nervous; though he was starting to feel more comfortable.
"Wanna sit with us next period?", Olivia asked warmly.
"S-sure! That would be fun" Jacob was excited he's starting to make friends.
"I'll see you guys there" Rae called out, quickly swimming deeper underwater and towards the school.
"C'mon let's get going!" DQ said, grabbing Jake and Olivia's hands and running off, Lizzy very close behind. Everyone laughing together like great friends.
