“Hey,” I hear Niall say as he gently shakes me awake. “April, wake up. We’re landing soon.”
My eyes flutter open and I see the familiar blonde boy smiling at me.
“What are you smiling for?” I ask, sitting up and trying to function again.
“Nothing,” he waves off.
“No, tell me.”
“April, it’s nothing,” he insists. I roll my eyes.
“I don’t see why you can’t tell me.”
A moment of silence passes. “You’re cute when you sleep,” he admits sheepishly. I look at him, but he was avoiding my gaze. I would’ve thought he was kidding or just teasing me, but the way he was acting made me think he was serious. I pretended not to notice.

“So,” I say once he pulls into my driveway. “How many of these little letter things are left?” I ask. He smirks at me and pulls his key from the car’s ignition.
“You honestly think I’m going to tell you that?”
“Well, how am I going to know when there’s no letters left?” I ask, following him out of the car.
“Oh, trust me. You’ll know.” He pops the trunk and pulls my huge bag out with two hands. I cross my arms.
“Can you tell me when I’ll get the next one?” I ask.
“Tomorrow night,” he states casually. I wasn’t actually expecting him to tell me.
“Why? What’s tomorrow night?”
“I’m taking you out to dinner.”
“Really?” This was news to me. “When were you planning on informing me of this?”
“Well, I’m informing you right now,” he says with a cheeky grin.
“What if I have plans tomorrow?” I ask, smirking.
“You don’t.”
“You don’t know that.”
“Well, do you?”
“No,” I admit. He laughs, rolling his eyes.
“Great, then you’re going to dinner with me.”
He walks into the house with my bag over his shoulder. I follow him.
“But…why? And why are you carrying my bag? I can do it myself.”
“This thing weighs more than you do. I’ve got it. And why can’t I take my friend out to dinner once in a while? I feel bad for not being able to keep in touch while I was on tour, and I just want to make up for it.”
“You don’t have to make up for it. You already have.”
“Yeah, but I want to. So will you just agree already?” he asks, plopping my bag onto my bed. I smile.
“Fine,” I give in. “I’ll go to dinner.”
He smiles too. “Great. Wear something nice.”
With that he leaves me alone in my room wondering what I just agreed to.
