Once the announcement was over, I shot Hunter a look, to which he gave a slight nod of the head.
We watched Matthew walk off the stage, summoning Adam to follow. I suspected they were going to his office. A second later, I stood, but before I could take a step, I felt a foot smack my leg, sending me sprawling onto Hunter.
"I better get you to bed so you can sober up. Bye guys, I'll see you tomorrow." Hunter said quickly, holding me to him and dragging me away.
"What was that for?" I questioned, my face still pressed against his chest.
"It would look suspicious if we just got up right after he made the announcement, so we needed an excuse." He was a lot smarter then I had taken him for.
As we continued to go who knew where, I thought back to what Matthew said. I had to tell Zamon, or Holland or someone. If I didn't, then they'd be taken by surprise, ambushed, and God only knows how many people would get hurt, or worse.
The thought made me realize something, something that I had been ignoring for a long time. I did have feelings for Zamon. Sure, they weren't very prominent, but they were still there. The realization left me feeling depleted. There was nothing I could do about it now.
After a minute or so, we stopped and I stepped back. We were standing at the base of the stairs, in the corner with me against the wall.
"What are we gonna do? I have to warn them about this." I sounded desperate to my own ears.
"We need to stop Matthew, because if we don't, then we'll have to tell Zamon, which will defeat the purpose of stopping this ridiculous war. All he'll do is ready his gang, and there'll still be a fight. Enough people have died because of this already." he was staring down at me, but, not, at the same time.
It was as if he'd been taken to another place. It made me question if he was thinking about Stephanie. The admission made me think of Kyle.
Footsteps brought me out of my reverie. They were coming from behind Hunter, but the person was unknown to me, considering I couldn't see over the tall boy in front of me, and I was basically backed into the corner.
The sound stopped, and a second later, "Hunter?"
The voice nearly caused me to drop dead. I had completely forgotten about him. I hadn't seen him around the clubhouse at all, which made me believe he'd died in the fight. Well, I hoped he had anyway.
The initial shock wore off, and Hunter was looking down at me worriedly. I didn't want to see him, I couldn't, just hearing his voice made me want to lash out and attack him. I realized it'd have to have looked weird, Hunter just standing in a corner, so I did the first thing that came to mind. I grabbed a fistful of Hunter's shirt, yanked him down to my level, and kissed him.
It wasn't a romantic kiss, far from it actually. Both of our eyes were open, his were wide. After a second of just staring at each other, I closed my eyes and twisted slightly, so Sebastian would see me there.
It felt like hours, as the kiss slightly deepened. Hunter was really getting into it, and it made me slightly uncomfortable. Finally, the steps retreated. My eyes burst open, and without disconnecting, I looked to the left. He was no where in sight.
I pulled away from Hunter, who looked dazed. After blinking a couple times, he flushed bright red. I had embarrassed him.
"Sorry, I just didn't know what to do without killing him, and I-" his face grew hard before cutting me off.
"No, it's okay, I understand."
After staring at him with my eyebrows furrowed, I continued.
"I thought Sebastian was killed during the fight. Where has he been?"
He looked down the hallway, as if his name made him remember he'd been there, to make sure he was really gone.
"Matthew thought it was a good idea that he changed to Adam's gang. Nobody ever really liked him. The only reason he joined the gang was because his heart was broken. Basically, everyone thought he was a pussy, and he is." Hunter sounded cold, distant. I hadn't hurt him, had I?
" How are we going to stop Matthew?" I asked after a second.
"I don't know yet. I'll talk to him tomorrow when I get the chance. For now we'll try to think of a way that we can stop this without him realizing that we're plotting against him, because if he does, he'll kill us, blood ties be damned." He was gone before I could reply, and I watched him effortlessly run up the stairs.
I groaned and lent back against the wall. Tonight had been so promising, so fun. Until all the drama just decided to explode. I rubbed my hands down my face, tiredly.
Down the very end of the hall, I watched Matthew's office door open, and a figure emerge, the door closing after. I could tell it was Adam, and I was about to take off up the stairs, when he turned and noticed me standing there.
He smirked, threw a wink at me, then sauntered off.
I groaned again, this time smacking my head against the wall. A thought occurred to me, and made me even more upset then I was before.
This is my life now.
I climbed the stairs, feeling lethargic. The nights events had drained me, physically and emotionally, and all I wanted to do was sleep.
When I finally reached my bed, I collapsed on it. Just as I was about to succumb, I remembered Matthew exiting my room, and his suspicious excuse, but I dismissed it nearly straight away, too tired to even bother, or to care.
