Jennifer~
"Wow, this is so pretty."
"But damn look at the price."
"Almost all are—"
"More than you guys are worth?" I finished. My three best friends looked up at me and smiled guiltily. When I let them into the fresh supplies, I didn't expect all of them to go so wild.
I sighed at the mess they made.
"We will clean up for sure," Shreya suggested.
"On better thought, Jennie is there anything which is on sale or something?" Trisha asked.
"You mean which are affordable?" I smirked. Mom loved pricing all her products quite high and that's how she always made profit. And people bought it without a second thought because it was her design and her creativity. And her name.
"Damn yes or I'll have to sell a kidney to look pretty in one of your Mom's dresses," Tanya chimed in.
I laughed, "Wait here I'll tell Sarah to show y'all."
I left them there drooling and gaping all over my mom's new stock of clothes while searching for my colleague.
"Sarah?" I called out as I reached the basement.
"Yes Jen?" she called out as she stood up from behind boxes of clothes with a clipboard in her hand.
I cringed as she called me by that name. Its just been two days since mom employed her. She is in the same boat as me- fashion designing is her dream too. But she is so unlike me though that its genuinely funny.
She'd be bursting with energy all day long and doing ten things at once. I'd lose my patience with a costumer half way through but she would make sure that her costumer buys at least three garments.
And she is really pretty. In fact mom even told me that one of her models have been causing her trouble lately and she was really looking forward to employ someone else. Possibly Sarah, if she agrees.
People might guess I'm jealous but in all honesty anywhere other than the ramp walk is my home. Been there, done that, didn't enjoy it. Like at all.
And she was really nice and did most of my work too.
But that still doesn't make me like the fact that she towers above me when she steps closer.
"Show those old stocks to my friends up there and make sure that they haven't ruined the new ones. I made a mistake by showing it to them." I sighed.
"They just went gaga over them right? I mean whats not to like? They're so beautiful. Like drop dead gorgeous. Your mom is such a goddess—"
"Yeah got it," I cut her off as I took the clipboard from her and pushed her towards the stairs. She giggled as she walked away. She worshipped my mom and she knows how much it irks me to hear her praise her like that.
When she disappeared from sight and I heard her greeting my friends from the floor above, I was sure that she'd send them back home utterly broke. Hey, I wasn't complaining.
I looked down at the clipboard in my hand and removed a pen from my back pocket. I crossed out all the supplies that we'd already received and marked those that I had to send to my mother's workshop.
Abruptly, my eyes fell on a package which was under my name. I looked at it confused for a moment because usually all the packages come in my mom's or the store's name before realization hit me.
A grin splayed across my face as I walked to it. Pulling out a cutter from my pocket, I opened the cardboard box and all its packaging.
There was a piece of paper which listed all the contents inside the box. My grin widened when I saw the first two words - black satin - written on it.
