"Rough on the surface, but you cut through like a knife
And if it was an open-shut case
I never would've known from that look on your face
Lost in your current like a priceless wine."

Chapter 30

It was another match day and this time, I was guilt-free, in the front bleachers, cheering for a particular jersey.

"You have no idea how happy I am to know that you guys solved your disputes," Trisha said, her hands clapping, her eyes fixated on the ground as the players arranged themselves, but her statement inexorably addressed to me.

I sighed.

Because I knew Trisha's teasing undertone way too well.

"No."

She chuckled, "I didn't even instigate anything!"

"I'll say it for her, just get together, please?" Arnav quipped from beside her, looking straight at me.

Unlike Trisha, he had no shame.

"Tweedledum got herself a Tweedledee," I mumbled under my breath.

"Aren't y'all done playing this chase game?"

Trisha finally turned to me, a stern look plastered on her face.

I refused to look at her as I stared straight ahead.

"We are just friends," I muttered.

"Are you for real, Jenny? That guy has been so obvious about his feelings for you, just-"

"He hasn't said anything at present-"

"You know him better than he probably knows himself, but fine, keep denying what you two clearly have for each other," she sighed.

"I just broke up with Ethan-"

"Yes, I do remember, he was a great guy but remind me again, why did you have all those issues with this great guy?"

"You should have been a lawyer."

She raised her hands and exhaled.

"I am done with you two."

Just then Soham looked at us from his spot on the ground and our eyes met for a brief second before I looked away.

Blushing.

My heart skipping a beat.

No.

Mumbai FC won, plain and square. Soham had scored two goals and his performance was rated the best for the day.

We yelped as we watched the team celebrate.

"This has been his best match," Arnav agreed while Trisha snickered at me.
I rolled my eyes.

"I shouldn't have tagged along with you two today, next time, don't count me in."

"We didn't, you were the one who said that you wanted to come," Trisha jeered.

"Rude," I muttered.

"You know I am joking," she chuckled, giving me a side hug. "I am glad you are over moping about Ethan."

"Yeah, me too."

Ethan and I haven't met or even talked since we broke up and I think the distance has been doing me good. I submerged myself in college work and this was the first time in a month that I've been out with friends since the fashion show.

No matter how it ended, Ethan was important to me, and his loss did feel like a punch, but as Trisha said, I was truly past walking around with that gloom hanging over me.
