A Tale of an Old Legend

"About 10 million years ago, when this world was first created, there was no such thing as a "co-existing world". This world, that once had been whole, was split in half due to a foolish war that destroyed nearly everything. The war, known as the 'Blue Moon', was how it all began."

I was often told this story when I was younger, yet I didn't quiet understand it.

"The world that was once whole, known as Sekai, was separated. Due to the separation, a system known as a "Chuukaisha" was born. Between every few years or so, a luminous Blue Moon would appear in the night sky. From the first world, there is a person chosen. That person will be granted to go to the other world with a mission that they are to complete. The mission: To be able to return and come back to any world, no matter what. Whoever the chosen person is, they must be strong willed and should be able to have no one back them up. If they are to fail in their duty, a Red Moon will appear days later, meaning that they have fallen. No one really knows what it's like in the other world. No one knew, before the 1st "Chuukaisha" was chosen. The very 1st "Chuukaisha", a girl who didn't give up no matter what, was able to prevent a Red Moon from appearing. The 1st "Chuukaisha", who was able to fulfill her task. She lived her life to the fullest and fell into a peaceful sleep many years after. Smiling."

Was she glad ? Why did she die smiling ? I would wonder.

"Yet another Blue Moon appeared years after following the death of the first "Chuukaisha". The 2nd "Chuukaisha", a child who was similar to the 1st, was sent to the other world next. She managed to stay in the other world for about 5 months, before a Red Moon appeared in this world. The Red Moon, which marked her as a failure. The people of this world started to loose their own hope. They wished to turn to the 1st "Chuukaisha", but were never able to. Years following the 2nd, there was nothing more than disaster and sadness. More Blue Moons, More Red Moons."

Why ? How could many be lost just within a couple of years ? We were now around the 13th "Chuukaisha", which we waited so eagerly to get word from. For the first time in my life, I saw that Red Moon, which shined to brightly in the night sky. That was the first time, I felt a burning passion in my heart. This pendant, that I've had ever since I was born, was faintly glowing in the center of the faded blue stone. I looked up at the Red Moon that night and promised myself something.

"Someday, if I were to get chosen... I promise to come back here."

                           "Smiling, no matter what."
