Chapter 6

Janet's pov:

"Janet, take the bags give me the car keys and hide in the nearest shop until I am up the escalator." Abby instructed.

"Darling could you please tell me what's going on?" I said.

"See that man there?" She pointed to a man sitting outside the pub. I nodded.

"That's my dad. And he can't see me or he will kill me, literally he will beat be to death." She sounded terrified and it was quite a good plan. Her dad didn't know me and I would just slow Abigail down, she needed to get away.

"Ok darling, here are the keys. Now run. I will follow you once you are out of sight." I took the bags off her and handed her the keys. Abigail shot across the path and up the escalator, she was out of sight in no time. Her dad must have spotted her because he walked over to me.

"Excuse me, you don't happen to have seen a little girl have you? She is about this high and has a shoulder length brown hair." I had to buy time and I had an idea.

"What was that dear?" I pretended to not have heard him.

"Have you seen a little girl on her own with brown hair?" He spoke slightly louder.

"Just a minute dear." I adjusted my earpiece, or so he thought.

"Say that again." I said. He was clearly getting irritated now.

"HAVE YOU SEEN A LITTLE GIRL WITH SHOULDER LENGTH BROWN HAIR ON HER OWN!!?" He was practically yelling. I mentally chuckled to myself. I knew what would really annoy him.

"Umm... No." I said simply and walked away.

"Where are you going?" He asked me.

"I'm going to the doctors for an ear test." I said.

"Thank god." He muttered.

"Why do you want to know?" I raised my eyebrow at him. He didn't say anything.

"Are you sure you haven't seen a little girl?" He said again.

"POSITIVE. Goodbye." I said and walked away up the escalator and towards the car. I couldn't see Abigail when I reached the car so I knocked on the window.

"Abigail love its just me." In the back seat I could see a little head pop up and peer over at me with big green eyes. Abigail reached over and pulled up the lock. I sat down at the wheel and Abby climbed over so she was sat beside me. Her cheeks were tear stained and her eyes her red and puffy from crying. She was trembling all over.

"Don't worry love, it's alright. Your dad is still in there he isn't coming after us. Calm yourself down ok? Here." I passed her a bottle of water and she gulped it down.

"Thank you." She said passing the bottle back. "And thank you for taking me shopping, I have so many clothes now!" Her mood began to lighten up a bit as we drove off.

Abigail's pov:

"That's alright darling. It's 4:00pm now so when we get in you can unpack your clothes into the spare room and maybe watch some telly for a while?"

"Unpack?! But I'm only staying for one night aren't I?"

"Don't be silly my lovely! You have nowhere to go, I'm not going send you out into the streets. You shall stay with me for as long as you like, until you find somewhere else to stay."

"Oh my god thank you so much!" Janet was letting me live with her! She was practically my grandma now. I was so happy words could not describe. I had finally found someone who actually cared for me and loved me. I had found home. For now anyway.
