It had been already a week since she started working for Aaban Rehman Khan - ARK group of companies. The first day of her joining was very eventful.
She entered her office which was on the second last floor of the fifteen-storey building. The top floor was out of bounds for common people as it was reserved for the CEO. Nobody dared to go there. Only Ashar Salman - his personal secretary had the card to use the only elevator that took one to the top floor. The public elevator was till the second last floor only.
Placing her bag on the table, she observed the interior. Her name plate was placed on the desk. A brown leather couch was in one corner and a standing lamp in the other. The entire room was in shades of brown, beige and cream and it fit her taste perfectly. To top it all, the huge glass window behind her desk presented the most beautiful view of the city. She was in love with her office.
She settled there, spinning her chair around and enjoying the view, when the door opened. She was so immersed in the view that she hadn't noticed someone entering. It was only when he cleared his throat, she turned around.
"You." He yelled, with widened eyes, unable to believe himself.
She was dreading their first meeting and here it was. Aaban hadn't seen her the day before, it was possible that he didn't recognize her from her photo on the documents because it was too old.
She quickly stood up from the chair, embarrassed. As if it was destined for her, that everytime she would encounter him, something bad would happen. Due to her quick and startled movement, the frame on the table fell down and broke. She quickly bent down to pick up the pieces from the floor and then hit her head with the desk. She winced in pain, rubbing her head when a piece of glass pierced her finger as well.
Great. Just Great. She thought to herself as she threw the pieces in the bin and grabbed a tissue to clean off the blood.
"I am sorry." She spoke, too embarrassed to even look at him.
"Why is it that the first thing you say to me is 'sorry' every time I see you?" He asked, raising his eyebrow at her after observing her antics for the past five minutes. He wasn't amused at all. Infact, it angered him how careless she was.
"If I had known it was you, I would have never hired you. Your documents and your real personality don't match even a little bit. Our company doesn't need such clumsy and careless employees." He yelled at her.
Maybe it was because of her finger paining, but his tone made her eyes well up. Nobody had yelled at her like this before. This is what happens when you step out of the comfort of your home into the real world for the first time.
"I said, I am sorry."
"As if sorry would fix everything. I don't know how much damage will you do to my property if this is what you do on the first day of your joining."
"I will pay you back. For your phone and for this." She pointed to the trash.
"From the money that I will pay you?" He mocked.
She looked at him angrily. "What's your problem with me?"
"Listen lady, watch your tone. I am the boss here. If I can hire you one day, I can also fire you the very next."
"I know. You don't have to boast about everything." She snapped back and closed her eyes, applying pressure over her finger.
"I came here to brief my newly hired employee about their work but it doesn't look like you want to work. I didn't hire you to enjoy the view." He further insulted her.
"Excuse me."
"Excused." He deadpanned. "But now that I have done the mistake of hiring someone like you, I have to own it as well."
