WINGS #1, BEGIN- Theory & Hidden Secrets

The Theory: Jungkook was living a dream, and had to accept it by letting go/being reborn.

Theme: Letting go and escaping a cage

BTS dropped a short film by the name of "WINGS Short Film #1 BEGIN", which agreeably left all the ARMY's puzzled. Like the curious people we are, be decided to spend WAY too much time theorizing this 2 and a half-minute video and it's meanings. [The following took us, like 5 hours of non-stop thinking.] We broke this down into the sections and times of the video for an easy follow. [J-]Hopefully this isn't too confusing.

[0:10] In the beginning, Rap Monster can be heard reciting a line from Hermann Hesse's "Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair's Youth," the line being, "The realms of day and night, two different worlds coming from two opposite poles mingled during this time." The book is about expectation verse reality, and the struggles of growing up, which connects a lot to this short film. The previous quote from the novel may hint that Jungkook is in two different worlds, or rather, a dream and a reality.

[0:35] Speaking of dreams, Jungkook is seen lying in a bed, and appears like he is experiencing a nightmare, due to his constant moving and twitching. However, a nightmare of what? A burning piano and a car accident? Jungkook wakes up immediately after the car accident. Where else did he experience a car accident? The 'I Need U' MV. A quick fast forward to [0:39 – 0:42], once he DIED [there was another theory where he died in the accident] from the crash, he WOKE UP. So does that mean 'I Need U' and 'Run' was just a dream? Sure, and let's hold that thought there.

[0:37] The few seconds that we had with the burning piano gives tons of clues. For one, the slightly more obvious clue is the piano. The only member in BTS who knows how to play the piano is SUGA [Yoongi]. And the fact that it is burning [fire also links with SUGA, the many scenes where he is surrounded by fire in the MVs], gives an option that SUGA also died, but in Jungkook's dream. However, that is a clue that SUGA has a big role in the film. The second clue may not be as obvious. In the background, behind the burning piano, one may be able to make out a poster. A poster of whom? The face on the poster is the one and only J. Cole, a hip-hop rapper. He also happens to have many raps surrounding dreams. CONCIDENCE? WE THINK NOT! This solidifies the dream theory we had earlier. Also, J. Cole has an album/song named 'Born Sinner', and BTS sang 'Born Singer' before, to which we believe that 'Born Singer' is inspired [or infired, lol ;)] by 'Born Sinner'. The chorus even sounds similar! And next, something we're not THAT confident in. Take a look at the lyrics: "I'm born sinner, I die better than that, swear. You were always where I needed you to be, whether you were there or not, I was there, I was born sinning." Quick highlight on the words, "I die," "...I needed you," and "...sinning". Jungkook died in 'I Need U" and mistakes, or sins were made. Suicide is considered a sin, if you didn't know, and suicide is a prominent subject in the 'I Need U' MV. In addition, can we talk about that small paragraph on the poster? It says: "Imagine LeBron James when he didn't have the championships. The pressure was affecting his game. That's where I've been for the last two years." Even though Jin and the other members weren't real, Jin's death [In 'I Need U'. We know it wasn't confirmed, but we agree with that theory,] affected Jungkook. Jungkook watched the other members suffer, grieving from Jin's death, which impacted him indirectly. Jungkook realized the hardships of reality [while in his dream] because he was the first to let go of Jin's death. When he woke up, he had to learn how to let go again.

[0:39] The car crash scene featured the sound of shattering glass and a silhouette of a bird. Now, we may have already mentioned the whole dying and waking up thing, but keep the bird in mind. Okay, moving on.
