April 4, 2016, Monday Night RAW

UGHHHHH. I was hoping that this wouldn't happen. The creative guys think it's best for me to relinquish my Intercontinental Championship, the night after I just retained it. I honestly don't know how to react to this situation. I have to do what they tell me, because if I don't, I can possibly end my career by continuing to compete. The night after WrestleMania is usually the craziest night of the year, and I don't want to shut down the fans' excitement, but I have to, unfortunately. This is how I'm starting the New Era.

The RAW GM (for one night only), Shane McMahon is currently in the ring, and his first order of business is to introduce me and vacate the title. As I make my way to the ring, tons of emotions begin to takeover my mind. All of my hard work and now I have to surrender the Intercontinental Championship, but don't worry, I'll be back sooner than you think.

I get on the mic and thank the fans for their overwhelming support.

"I had the match of my life last night at the grandest stage of them all, WrestleMania. I went in not at 100% and still managed to give Seth Rollins the beating he deserved. Unfortunately, I had some nagging injuries due to the unforgiving beat-down I suffered last week on RAW. Seth's turnbuckle powerbomb made it worse. But I'm not out here to make excuses. Due to this, I have to surrender the Intercontinental Championship and get some surgery done on my lower back. Thank you WWE Universe for your support, and thank you to Vince McMahon for giving me the opportunity to wrestle for the best wrestling company today! I promise each and every single one of you, I will come back stronger than ever!"

The crowd chants, "Please don't go! Please don't go! Please don't go!" As much as I want to stay, I am physically unable to compete. I hand Shane the title and make my way backstage.

After RAW goes off the air, I grab my things and head to the hotel room. I have to get some sleep tonight, because I am heading back to my beautiful home in Miami, FL, to rest up.

I finally make it back home after a long flight. Everything is in the same place, as I left it. I get on Twitter for a while to do a little Q & A session with my fans. Most of the questions I receive are related to my injury, so I ignore them, because it is still unclear on how long I will be out. I answer the rest of them. Of course, I'm not able to get to everyone. I get a call from the head WWE Doctor, stating that I'll have to get surgery done on my back in 2 weeks. Praying that goes well. I post an injury-related tweet, telling the fans about my upcoming surgery. Many of them send me well-wishes, which I am truly grateful for.

The surgery goes well. The doctor prescribes me some medication that I have to take periodically to help ease the pain. He states that I will be out of action for the next 6-8 months and notifies the WWE.com editors, so they can make the official announcement. This is devastating to me, as a wrestler, because I can't go out there and do what I do best. It's going to take some time for me to adapt to living a life outside of the ring, but I'll find something to do, hopefully.
