Chapter 1

Kalani's POV:

"Kalani Wai, Hawaii Community College."

I walk onto the stage to receive my diploma. As I do, I shake Principal Sadaya's hand. "I'm so proud of you, Kalani. You're one of the smartest students we've ever had at Gallagher High. Please feel free to visit anytime." Principal Sadaya tells me, "Thank you." I say, "That's very kind of you."

Principal Sadaya pulls me into a hug. "Have a great summer, Kalani." She hands me my diploma. When we stop hugging, I walk off the stage. I'm officially a college student.

I am laying down on my bed no longer in fancy clothes. Instead, I'm in a sweatshirt with long sweatpants and cozy socks. I'm watching The Notebook. That always has been my favorite movie.

"Kalani?" Mom asks,

"Yes, Mom?" I say,

"Whatcha doing?"

"Nothing."

"Kalani"

"Yes?"

"Is that what you plan on doing all summer?"

"Yes. And hang with Jo and Miko. And go shopping for things for my dorm."

"I have a surprise for you."

"What?"

"Your father and I planned a special trip for us."

"Really? What is it?"

"You may not be able to hang with Jo and Miko and you'd probably have to shop for your dorm at the end of the summer."

"What? Where are we going?"

"England"

"What? Seriously? Oh my god, Mom! Thank you!"

"Pack your bags, Kalani! We're staying the whole summer!"

She leaves the room and I scream into my pillow. No freaking way! England! That's awesome!

I pack the things that belong to me since I probably wouldn't be able to stop by home. I'd have to drive straight to my dorm.

I begin to pack and before I know it, I'm finished. Off to the airport I go!
