Only eight people rode the last bus, including myself and the bus driver. Two giggly girls sat at the front talking about a some guy. There was a silent girl that sat in the very back staring out the window like everyone else. A strawberry blonde guy sat a few seats behind be, staring straight ahead and sometimes looking at Willis. Willis sat two seats in front of me, talking to the red headed twin of Toni named Todd who sat across the isle from her.
I tried to take a nap the first half hour, but it was difficult with Willis's bubbly chatter and the hitting of potholes.
I was just about to take out my iPhone and message Olivia when Willis said, "Hey Peyton, this is Todd."
Not wanting to be rude but not wanting to talk either, I looked over at Todd and smiled at him. He had freckles like no one else. Willis and I had some from the sun, but man did he have freckles. He was pretty tall too, and he looked like the friendliest guy in the world. "So you're new?' he asked.
"Yeah," I told him, thinking nothing of it. But the moment the word left my mouth the other 4 kids on the bus all turned my way and gawked at me. It felt weird, like I was an alien. The situation reminded me of toy story when Buzz and Woody get stuck in the claw machine at Pizza Planet, and all the green aliens say "A stranger!" "From the outside!" "Ooooooo!"
"Is... something wrong?" I asked, looking at everyone.
"You're new?" the guy that sat a few seats behind me asked. I met his brown eyes head on and nodded. His eyes flew to my mark and he looked confused. "What are you?" he asked.
I couldn't help myself. Did he seriously just ask me that? "What did you call me?" I asked him. "A what?"
The guy laughed and leaned forward, filling the entire bus with his deep laughter. "This bitch doesn't know what kinda school this is!"
"Chip, shut up!" Willis said to my defense, but even when I turned back to her, she was looking at me strange. "You seriously don't know?" she asked, her for head creasing.
"What are you guys talking about?" I asked her. "What do you even mean?"
Willis didn't even reply. She just got up and sat next to Todd, then they began to whisper.
Annoyed, I angrily got my ear buds out of my purse and listened to music on my phone. I tried to listen to the lyrics, but I was too distracted. Willis and Todd commenced whispering the entire time, and every now and then I would catch one of the other kids looking at me- even the bus driver was looking at me in the rear view mirror! Great!
The next two hours of the bus ride went by fast, and I could tell when we had reached Indiana. There were many highways, factories, and lots and lots of smog.
Willis had returned back to her seat the last fifteen minuets of the ride and everyone was silent. We began to ascend a large hill, and at the top was a large white brick building that looked more like a mansion that anything. Instead of a lawn though, there was a parking lot past a large gate that was already opened. Past the parking lot were huge douple doors that most likely opened into a large entryway.
The bus parked and the bus driver opened the doors. Everyone hopped up and ran to the door. I was shocked at how fast they moved, and none of them even said anything to the bus driver. I took my time getting off, and when I did I made sure to say thank you to the bus driver, even though he still looked at me strange.
When I stepped off the bus, everyone was already grabbing their bags from under the bus and making their way to the huge double doors which were now open. Willis seemed to have gone off, not wanting to hang around the "bitch who doesn't know what kind of school this is".
