"My love," I sighed with happiness as I flung my arms onto the hood of my beloved Stang. Behind me, I could hear Aspen closing the squeaky door to the truck, then walking up to the car behing me.

"You're supposed to wait for the vehicle to make a stop before jumping out of it," he joked and he walked around it and inspecting the hood (which my mother must have put up while I was away).

I smiled and stood upright, the hot metal from the shining sun leaving my skin warm and a bit uncomftrable. "Ohhhh I missed this car," I said, more to myself than to anyone in particular. "So many days I've gone without seeing my baby!"

Aspen rolled his eyes but with a small smile on his lips. "So who is driving this thing back?" he asked as I leaned into the open window and pressed the hood button. It slowly began to fold back. I gave him a look as if he just asked me to sprout wings and fly. "Okay, okay," he laughed.

"Let me just run inside and leave my mom a note. She should be at work." I could feel his eyes on me as he watched me retreive the key under the loose floorboard of the porch, and unclock the door.

Great! I thought to myself. Now he knows how to get into my house. Well, not that he would want to get into my house anyways...

But then my mind went to the kiss that happened not fifteen minuets ago, and my face redened. Did that mean we were together now? Were we going to start... dating? Or something?

I shook my head, resolving to leave that one to Aspen, and tried not to look too awkward as I entered the house. I walked into the cool entry way, the three identical unbrellas still hung on the hooks to the left, my old work boots still on the rug on the right side of the door from when I did things like help my dad build the tree house that was still in my backyard.

I walked further into the house, going slow so that I wouldn't run into any robbers on the way to the kitchen, even though I was pretty sure I was alone. The right room from the hallway and near the stairs was the living room, and I puased a moment to take everything in and make sure my mom hadn't changed anything too drastically while I was away.

But nope, the tv remote still was in its place on the coffee table, the big window with the light blue curtains still opened, showing the front yard, and my picture from when I was five still hung over the couch.

I remembered that picture- it was taken by my dad. It was a black and white photo, but I remembered that the dress was a pink with the lace skirt and the ribboned short sleeves. The tiara that my mom had put on my head was askew to the left, my curly updo falling out a little in curly strands by the side of my face. My hand was on the tiara to keep it from falling further, and my eyes and face were lit up from a laugh that had escaped when my dad made silly faces so I would smile at the camera. My mother adored that picture, and I remember the day she found it and hung the huge picture up in the living room for everyone to see. It made me smile.

Hurry up, Peyton! I told myself, walking quickley to the kitchen to write the note. I needed to get moving if we were going to make it back by ten.

In the kitchen I ripped off a sheet of paper from the note pad by the telephone, and wrote a quick message.

 Mom,

went on a road trip with a friend to get my car. Nora- my principle- said it was ok! Sorry I missed you, ill call you later tonight!

xoxo ~ Peyton

Then, just so that my mother wouldn't pester me about the school since I was sure she didn't want to know about Coriatis and my powers, I added-
