I was up the entire night trying to find a good way of getting out of here alive, but I had nothing everything I thought of went right back to Jim and I can’t ask him to do anything for me (Although he really does owe me because of this) I need a good idea, no I need a phone and food and water. I feel so sluggish and out of shape now and I believe it’s only been a week and two days, well three days now today is Wednesday I believe. I sat in the little room that I was being locked in and looked over to the window; I could just climb out of it couldn’t I? I mean it’s not that far of a drop and I’m at the back of the house it could be easy. I know what I’m going to do; I’m running away tonight once they go to sleep.
The day was dragging on all since I knew I was leaving tonight and I was hoping I wouldn’t get found, but that was a chance I was willing to take.
“Jim?”
“Yes Rylie?”
“Do you have any food or water?”
“Here you go.” He handed me a large bag of food full of different types of meat and things that made my mouth water just at the sight of it, I was then passed a large jug of water and Gatorade
“I’ve been saving this stuff for you I knew Alan would leave for his drinking one day and I knew you needed food so eat and drink a fast as you can.”
“Thank you Jim”
“Oh here is a new shirt and shorts, my little girl looked to be your size so I took some of her stuff I hope you don’t mind.”
“Not at all thank you so much.”
“One more thing Rylie, here is some stuff to clean up those cuts, I know it might be a little late I can see you look sick and you look like you have been seeing things, I know you’re infected and I’m sorry.”
“You’re off the hook Jim thank you.” I dug into my food and drink finishing half the bag and a bunch of the water saving the Gatorade and the rest of my food for tonight.
It was nearly dark outside and Alan had just gotten back to the little house from drinking and you could smell the liquor on his breath.
“Come here sweetheart.” He was drunk off his rocker I could tell his eyes were a little bloodshot maybe from something he’s been taking I don’t really know and I don’t really care all I care about is getting out of here “Not a chance Alan” His head shot up at the sound of my stronger voice I didn’t even expect it to come out that strong.
“What did you say sweetheart?”
“I said no.”
“You might want to rethink that answer.” His grey eyes turned black and his jaw was set tight as he stood up and took long strides towards me; I stood in place I wasn’t going to budge. Just like that his body was placed in front of mine his breathing was heavy and his eyes were black it was almost like he was staring into my soul trying to find my weaknesses, but he had already exposed all those now I needed to regain my confidence and stand my ground no matter how scared I am right now.
“Are you going to be a good little girl and listen to me?”
“No.” His jaw tightened even more his fists were balled at his sides I was waiting for his move to come to hit me throw me to the floor but it never came all he did was stare at me then the corners of his lips turned into the spine chilling smile he gave off and that’s when I flew against the wall then kicked repeatedly my screaming could be heard from a mile away surely they were blood curtailing screams. “This is why we listen!” He kept on kicking me and I heard a crack emerge from my ribs I screamed louder then I was before and I tried to hold my ribs but Alan’s foot kept on colliding with my stomach and sides that I couldn’t even move until there was a shift in weight and pressure and I heard Jim shout at me “GO! RUN RYLIE!” I took that as my time and grabbed my Gatorade and food and started to run as fast as I could the pain that came from my ribs was barely tolerable I could barely breathe but I kept on running pushing past the pain and ran for as long as my feet would carry me.
My feet gave out about five miles from the house in a nearby field with tall grass that I could sleep in tonight and keep running tomorrow night, no I’m still too close to the house to even be remotely safe tonight. I kept on walking the air was cold and I didn’t have my jacket with me any longer all I had on was an oversized T-shirt and some sweats and socks. My body ached it hurt to breathe I didn’t know how much longer I could walk but I couldn’t give up now I had to keep going (even though I had no idea where I was going) I had no money to stay anywhere tonight so I would be stuck staying outside tonight if I decided I would stop for rest.
I walked another three miles till my feet and body couldn’t take anymore walking or running. I stopped at a gas station that I found along the way and slouched down against the wall in the back behind the dumpster. The stars were shinning really bright along with the moon the cool air spread across my face as I lied there under the starlight and fell asleep.
