The morning after the big house surprise, Finn woke to a very empty, very quiet house with no Rebecca waking him for family breakfast. Slowly he dressed and moved downstairs to find his father crying softly in to his cellphone in the kitchen.
"Your Mum's missing," Andy said quietly between calls. He was silently manic, shuffling and unshuffling papers and documents. Andy loved Rebecca like a dog to his master. He couldn't function without her strict suffocating instruction.
Finn calmed his anxious dad. Finn wasn't scared for his mother, not at all.
"She's probably at work, had to get in early," Finn held a cold glass of water to his fathers quivering hand.
"Not that her being gone for a while would be the worst thing in the world," Finn sighed under his breath, he was walking back upstairs to continue on his morning rituals.
"Does she usually take a big suitcase of her clothes and make-up and toiletries and money, to work?" Andy said, between gulps of the water. He was so scared.
"I don't know, Dad," Finn sighed. "Maybe she had a work trip she didn't tell us about?"
Andy was so greedy for any excuse not to worry for his wife but her leaving town without a word was so un-her.
"We both know that couldn't possibly be the case," Andy paused and then after a long think decided to call the police.
"I'm calling the police, I have to."
"They won't start the search for 48 hours, just leave it Dad," Finn objected.
"They'll do anything I want if I through enough money at them" Andy picked up the home phone and dialled the three numbers.
After a deposit of twenty-thousand dollars in to a charity sponsoring the build of a new police station out of town, the hunt for Rebecca was on. Three policemen asked around the neighbourhood. Andy searched the house for papers with details on any flights and questioned airports and taxi services. Finn, Jack and I meet at our new home and started calling friends and family of Rebecca's, but ran out of leads quickly. She had very little friends and her only family were parents she didn't speak to.
"Your mum's missing, Finn, we have to do something!"
Instead of joining Jack and I in our desperate search for answers, Finn lay resting on the couch, bored by his mother's disappearance it seemed.
"She's fine, okay? Rebecca's a big girl and can handle herself." Finn turned over and pulled a light blanket over him and closed his eyes.
I could barely believe his lack of interest in his mother's disappearance.
Jack rolled his eyes and angrily huffed at Finn napping and started dialling another number.

All night, the police, Andy, Jack and I searched and called and texted and emailed for Rebecca but there was nothing.
No contact, no leads and no trace.
Rebecca was gone, and I was suspicious.
