! ! ! PRESENT ! ! ! -Anthony's POV-
I walked up to the altar and awaited for the ceremony to begin. The doors swung open and there was Kalel, her hair done perfectly and her dress looking more beautiful than I imagined, with her arm interlocked with her father's. I heaved a sigh as she started walking down the aisle.
The wedding went just fine, until the I do's came. That's when I started getting nervous and my whole life flashed before my eyes, starting with meeting Aria...
! ! ! FLASHBACK ! ! ! -Aria's POV-
I was pacing back and forth, thinking about the news I was just given. I stopped in front of the man's desk and put my hands down on it. "So you're telling me I died?" I asked for what seemed like the hundredth time.
The guy sitting in the chair looked up from his computer and rolled his eyes, "Yes! How many times do I have to tell you?"
I shook my head and walked away. "How do I get back? To Earth?"
"You can't," He remarked, "You're dead."
"But isn't there some way to get back. You know, like reincarnation or something?"
He slammed down his pen on the desk, "Look, Aria, I get you're a recent addition to the afterlife. It's been what, a month? But you died. You're dead. You cannot go back to being alive. Understood?"
I crossed my arms over my chest, "Where's Drew?" I asked.
He smacked his forehead, "Why does it matter to you?" He murmured under his breath.
"He's my fiance and I'd like to know where he is."
"Do you even know how you died, Aria?" The young gentleman about my age inquired. I shook my head. He tilted his head to a mirror, which was hanging on the white wall above a dead plant. I made my way over and saw there was a red ring around my neck, "Now do you remember?" He questioned as I brought my hands to my neck. The memory flashed before me.
I was slammed up against the counter, struggling to keep him away from me. Glasses were shattered on the floor as he tried to tie the rope around my neck. I ran away, though, and locking the bedroom door before sitting down and hiding in the corner. I had a gun in my hands in case he broke though. But I must've fallen asleep and something must've happened while I was out, because the next I know, I'm not waking up the bedroom I shared with Drew, but to a world of white.
I gasped, "No! But...but we were going to be married!"
"He just used you, Aria," He remarked, "I'm so sorry."
A tear rolled down my cold, gray cheek, "So there's no way of me seeing him until he joins the afterlife?" I inquired hopelessly.
The young man looked at me in sympathy and heaved a sigh, "You know what, just because I'm starting to like you, only starting, I guess I can tell you how to get back." I beamed with joy, "But you can't tell anyone I told you this, okay?" I nodded my head in understanding before he dragged me down this hallway, that got darker and darker with each turn.
We approached a room where there was a pitch-black hallway that seemed to be never ending. He wrapped his arm around my back and explained, "This will take you back to the place you died. But no one will see you. No one will hear you. You're not there. Understood?"
I nodded my head as he pushed me towards the hallway. I clutched onto the threshold and glanced over my shoulder at him, "Thank you." I mouthed. He nodded his head and I spun around, starting to go down the endless hallway.
I couldn't see where I was going, until the dark hallway evolved into the bedroom where I was hiding. The furniture was different and I didn't recognize it at first.
The door behind me opened and a woman with a crying child in her hands came through, setting the baby in the wooden crib. "Anthony, please stop crying!" The woman shouted, annoyed with the child. She turned around and I thought she saw me, but she just walked through me and picked up a pacifier. She shoved it in the baby's mouth before leaving the room, thinking there was not much she could do.
The child spat out the pacifier and began to cry again. I walked up to the crib and looked down at the child. He stopped crying and made eye contact with me. His dark brown eyes stared right through me.
"Well, aren't you the cutest?" I commented, wiping the tears from his cheeks with my thumb. I heaved a sigh, "I bet you can't see me though. Or hear me."
He extended his arms up in response. I smiled and tried picking up the child, but he just stayed laying down in his crib as my arms passed through him. I heaved a sigh, "My name's Aria," I introduced myself, "Yours is Anthony, right?" He made a giggling sound, which I took as a yes, "You're lucky, Anthony, you have so much to live for. Whereas I on the other hand...I apparently died." He went silent, but I just continued, "Since you seem to hear me, I want to give you some advice, Anthony. Never fall in love. It's only going to end in heart break, or in my case, death..."
! ! ! PRESENT ! ! ! -Anthony's POV-
And those were the words going through my head. "Never fall in love...It's only going to end in heart break...Or in my case, death..."
"Stop," I blurted out while the pastor was saying something I wasn't paying attention to. Everyone went eerily silent. I heaved a sigh before looking into Kalel's eyes and barely being able to say, "I'm really sorry, Kalel. But I can't marry you." Gasps and sputters spread through the crowd as I pulled Kalel in for one last kiss. I pulled out of the kiss, and with my hands still under her jaw, croaked, "Goodbye, Kalel." And with that I ran down the aisle, ignoring the comments and yells shot at me, and out of the church, looking in every direction for Aria.
"Aria!" I called, starting to run towards the road, "ARIA!"
