"THE party," Brittanee clasped her fingers together under her chin in excitement, "and we're invited!" She began to bounce up and down, waving her hands her hands in fangirling fashion. I looked at Crystal with a questioning look on my face.
"I'm sorry about her," she put her hands on both of Brittanee's shoulder to cease her bouncing. "The party she's talking about is the senior frat party thrown every year on the first day of school. Usually, freshmen don't get invited, but since Sophie is friends with Eliza Binnz, they made an exception for us." Hearing the name, Eliza Binnz, startled me. Obviously the agency had done their research, rooming with me with one of Eliza's friends.
"What's so great about Eliza Binnz?" I asked nonchalantly. Brittnee let out another squeal. "She's only the most popular girl at this university! I don't even know how Sophie is such close friends with her. She said it was because they were family friends, or something like that..." I made mental notes of everything she had just said, but it wasn't enough. I had to meet her in person.
"Am I, by any chance, invited to this party?" I asked. I didn't hold my breath though. If their connection to Eliza was through Sophie, the chances of my coming along to this party were slim.
"Of course!" Crystal cheerfully exclaimed, "why wouldn't you be?"
"Oh I don't know, maybe because Sophie hates me?" I replied incredulously. Had she forgotten what happened just five minutes ago? Instead, she just laughed. "Soph treats everyone this way, including us. It takes a lot to earn her respect and trust."
"Hmmm..." I nodded slowly. I was learning a lot about these people. I'd even established the 'clique' Eliza was a part of. My question was, what would be her motive to kill anyone? It seemed like she had the perfect life; she was the most popular girl at the school, everyone wanted to be her friend, and she probably got a lot of attention from guys. But Mr. Harley had once told me that everyone is like an onion. You have to peel back some layers before their true character is revealed. A vivid memory of giggling like an idiot comes to mind when Mr. Harley started his lesson with the analogy, "Everyone is like an onion..."..
"Wait!" I blurted out at another realization, "I have absolutely nothing in this tiny suitcase appropriate to wear at a party!"
"Oh, that's not a problem!" Brittanee reassured me, "I have plenty of things you can borrow, believe me!" I stifled my chuckle. It was evident that one of the things she had most looked forward to at college were the parties. I'm sure most of her clothes were floozy and revealing, no offense to her.
"Sure, why not!" I said with false enthusiasm.
"Yay! Let's take a look at some now," she grabbed my arm and dragged me towards the two large suitcases lying open on her bed. She immediately dove in, rummaging through the bottomless pit that was her luggage.
"My clothes could probably all fit you, but you're just so much taller than me. In my clothes, you couldn't bend over without giving everyone a great view of your panties." She burst into laughter at the horrified expression on my face. I began to fill even more insecure about her picking out my clothes. I began dodging the clothes flying right at me. It was petrifying thinking about
"There!" she breathed out in relief, holding up her clothing of choice. My eyes widened, and I stepped back to get a better look. In her hands was a tiny black dress with thin straps holding the little thing together. It would be pretty if it wasn't for the fact that it looked small enough to be my crop top and tight enough to cut off my blood circulation.
"I don't think this is any better, can I pick something out myself?" I asked hopefully.
"Nonsense!" she chided, "this is just the perfect size! It might be a little tight, but see, it's stretchy." She pulled at it a bit with her fingers to prove her point. "See?" I let out a groan. She reminded me of Mia... and if she was anything like her, I knew I wouldn't be getting out of this.
