"So you're like a slave of Prince Riley's?"I ask after we've entered a beautiful kitchen.
"I'm not a slave here, I'm a vampire."He smiles, showing fangs that I don't notice he had earlier. I take a step backward in fear, but I decide that James seems safe, so I step back forwards.
"I thought you were a human. I mean you work here, and you live here"-I mutter-"Why do you work here then, and what do you do?"I ask him, he rolls his eyes and walks to what I'm guessing is a cleaning supplies closet. He comes back out with a rag and some kind of lemon scented cleaning spray. He hands the rag to me, and sprays the granite countertop. I start to scrub the counter , and he finally decides to answer my question.
"Well, when I was little my parents gave me up. They gave me up, and put me in an orphanage. I struggled with school, and made no friends because everyone found me too 'different.' I was born a vampire, you see, and everyone I knew was human. They called me a freak, and would bully me everyday. I snapped. I killed three boys that day....sucked them dry."He says, and I inhale sharply, but I keep my fear buried, and he continues on with his story.
"I then ran away, trying to escape the guilt I felt. For hundreds of years I did this, until I was finally done with it all. I kept doing horrible evil things and killing person after person, so I was going to jump off a bridge and kill myself."James whispers quietly, and I move out my rag down, and wrap my arms around his bicep in an act of comfort. He sighs heavily, and keeps his eyes downcast, remembering that night.
James P.O.V--------------------------------------
(Flashback)
I deserve to die. I killed more people than I can count, most of them innocent. Either way, I'm going to jump.
I walk to the edge, and look down into the dark chasm below me. I hear the running water, and my heart beat begins to race.
I take another step forward, one step closer to my death. I close my eyes, and take in a deep breath. I'm only steps away from being dead. From avenging all those who were killed by me, because of my own selfishness.
Another step, and I can hear the pounding of my heart against my rib cage. I'm now only one small step away. I take a deep breath, and exhale slowly. Then as I put my leg put in front of me to step into the chasm and into my death....I'm grabbed hastily, and thrown backwards onto the ground.
"What are you doing?!"The man who just threw me to the ground screams. By now, I know I look like a mess. Red puffy eyes, and tears streaming down my face. I'm shaking uncontrollably as sobs threaten to explode from my mouth.
"I deserve to die."I say, mustering up the most calm voice I can, but it ends up sounding crackly and high pitched.
"What's your name?"He asks me, and I shake my head. Clearly he doesn't understand that I don't want to be talking to him, or anybody. I tell him anyways, I don't know why though, but I couldn't not tell him for some reason.
"My name is Jameson."I say, and frown, looking to the my feet and at the ground below me.
"Why do you want to kill yourself?"He asks, in a Suprisingly calm voice. I sigh, but tell him anyways.
"I've done unimaginable things to many innocent people."I say.
"Nobody is innocent, Jameson."The man says, and I shake my head.
"I have no friends, nobody loves me, nobody would miss me."I say, and my voice cracks at the end. Remembering how the people at my old school would torment me.
"I'll be your friend, James."The man smiles, and reaches his hand out to help me up, I hesitantly accept it and rise to my feet.
"Why would you want to be my friend?"I ask.
"You can come live with me, and earn your stay by just helping around the house. My name is Riley, and I see potential in you to be good."Riley says, and I smile. I know that this man is a human, because of his scent, but I decide to trust him anyways.
"I was about to jump."I say, remembering that only a few moments ago I was midstep to my death.
"I know, but that's only because you didn't se what living had to offer you. Let me show you, James."He smiles, and I wipe away my tears, and plaster on a smile. I know it probably looks pitiful, but Riley doesn't seem to care. He walks forward, and then looks back at me, motioning for me to follow, and I do.
(Flashback over)
"He saved my life, Cameron."I say and smile, and spray the countertop again. She releases my arm and begins to scrub at the granite again.
