"teresa!" michael called from behind the counter, sliding the hot drink over. a young girl mumbles a "thank you" as she quickly grabs the coffee. michael smiles at her as she leaves the starbucks. he checks his phone for the time. 8:52 pm, eight more minutes. he mentally reminds himself, praying nobody else comes in before he closes. he was the only staff member left occupying the cafe; everyone else had left early.

just as he was about to start cleaning up, the bell above the door chimes, signifying somebody's walked in. he internally groaned, turning around to greet the source of his frustration. his eyes landed on a tall blond man approaching the counter. michael froze, staring intently at the figure. he's absolutely beautiful michael thinks as he is in awe by the man, making eye contact as he begins to speak. "sorry for coming in so late, are you still open?" he asks with an apologetic expression. his voice made michael's stomach flutter. "y-yes, what would you like?" michael responds, cursing at himself for stuttering. the man smiles softly and says "one venti carmel macchiato please, iced." michael nodded, grabbing a 20 oz. cup and a black sharpie marker. "can i get a name for that?"
he was the only costumer in the cafe, but it was mandatory to ask. plus, the black haired boy was extremely curious as to what the name of the gorgeous man in front of him was.
"luke."

luke. michael internally repeated the name to himself as he wrote the name on the cup. he had a new admiration for the name. he nervously wrote the drink name, as well as something else. "that'll be $4.15." michael said with a small smile. the man got out his wallet, pulling out a $5 note and handing it to michael. he blushed at how close their hands were as he took the note and opened the register. he began to count out change when the man said "keep the change." michael nodded, closing the register and admiring how polite the man was. he quickly got to work as the man took a seat by the window, admiring the artwork hung around the cafe.

after drizzling it with carmel, michael placed the beverage on the counter, proud of his work. "luke!" he called for the man, who stood to retrieve his coffee. michael thought about how nice it felt to speak his name, how beautifully it flowed from his mouth. "thank you, have a nice night michael!" the gorgeous man said with a small wave as he grabbed his coffee, exiting the cafe. michael stood frozen, wondering how luke had known his name before remembering that he wore a name tag. the interaction played over and over in his head as he cleaned up and drove home.
