Jacqueline's POV
"Sorry about the inconvenience Jacks," officer William said through the phone, "I'm afraid your parents won't be out of jail in at least three days. Is there any way you can stay with your brother?" You're probably wondering why my parents would be in jail on the day before Christmas. Well my parents are kind of obsessed with the Stocking Elves toy collection. I know 40 year-olds that still mess around with Christmas toys, kind of weird. The Stocking Elves were a limited edition toy collection that came out in the 1990's. They had dolls, ornaments, even trains! I had a whole phase where I was TOTALLY obsessed with the whole collection, so my parents felt in love too. In 2000, they no longer sold the collection, and they became obsessed with finishing theirs. Anyways, today was the day that the Stocking Elves convention was taking place. My parents went to the convention every year to try and finish it off. This year was different however. One man had a limited edition 1997 Stocking Elf North Pole Train set and my parents went bezerk. Unfortunately, there was another insane mother desperate to complete her set as well. The ending did not turn out as well as it was supposed to. Let's just say that my parents won't be welcome there again.
"I guess I can go to Henry's," I mumbled. Henry was my 25 year old brother that lived with his wife, Melody. They lived in Oakland Park, a town in the middle of nowhere and more than anything I wish I could just stay in the comfort of our apartment in New York. I thanked Will for the call than looked online to find train tickets out of Grand Central. The only one I could make was the twelve o'clock train. Great I thought to myself, I won't even be there in time for Christmas. I didn't even have any gifts for them! Honestly, I hated Christmas. But it would still be rude to show up with nothing. It was too loud and it was just a excuse for self-centered people of society to buy themselves a non-deserved present. I quickly packed a bag and threw in some gifts that I could possibly give them. I looked at the clock. 11:27. Shoot, I'm gonna be late. I ran out of the apartment and into the busy streets of New York City. I tried whistling a taxi but it was highly unlikely that would happen on Christmas Eve. Finally I spotted a small yellow dot whizz by against the white landscape. He stopped abruptly and I hurried in, the snow covering my royal blue knitted beanie.
"Where to miss?" the silver-haired man asked with a wide smile.
"Grand Central please," I said as I laid my head against the window. I stared into the street as little siblings playfully punched and kicked each other while gazing at the toys in the window, and couples gave each other Eskimo kisses as they stared at the lights in Central Park. I was tired, physically and emotionally. I felt so alone and on Christmas of all days! The taxi abruptly came to a stop and the old man turned around giving me a crooked smile. I started to take out my money, but he immediatly refused and gave it back to me.
"Hey it's Christmas! It's on me!" he grined. It felt good to get at least a little bit of warmth.
