Menessus Before It All Happened

I woke up rubbing my eyes. I realized that I was not in Dr. Zachary's office anymore. I was dreaming again.

I quickly scanned my surroundings. I was in a strange looking room. The bed I was on was just a wooden frame with animal skin tied at the corners. The room was even more weird.

The window was just a hole in the wall. There was no glass to block rain or thieves from coming in. At the corner of the room was a wooden table. I think it was a study table though it looked like it could collapse any second.

"Menessus! Come out of your room now!"

Huh? Who is this Menessus person?

Suddenly, a middle-aged woman stormed into the room looking more pissed than pee. Then, it suddenly hit me. I was Menessus.

"Menessus, for the last time come out and help your father look after the sheep!"

The woman had dark brown hair with olive skin. She had incredibly clear skin which meant she looked after herself well. Her stunning brown eyes seemed as if that they had a twinkle. Still, she made me really angry for screaming in my face.

"Who do you think you are, screaming in my face just like that!" I retaliated.

"What?! You watch your mouth when you speak to me, young man. I am your mother!" she yelled.

Crap. Bad move. I quickly ran out of the room and left the house. Outside, there was an aging man who stood looking at a flock of sheep. I slowly approached the old man.

"Finally woke up, Menessus?" he said all of a sudden.

"Yes,...father?" I said hoping that this was my father. If it wasn't, it might get a bit embarrassing for me.

"Well, there's no rush, my son. It's not like the sheep a going to start flying away." he chuckled.

I was surprised that this cheerful old man was married to that crazy woman back in the house. Even I, as the son or so it seemed, found it surprising.

"You don't have to look after the sheep, my boy. I've got it covered." he smiled. "Thanks, father." I said.

He sat down on the soft grass and I followed his actions. We sat there looking at the scenery for some time. It was breath-taking. I never got to do this when I was Casper. I was always so busy with assignments. When I didn't have any assignments, Melanie would ask me to watch some silly chick flick at her house.

Thinking of Melanie, I began to feel lonely. Yes, she had terrible taste in things to do with her boyfriend but she had the personality to make up for. It was probably in the BC years which was before the AD years. That meant it would be millenniums before Melanie would be born. I won't get to see her until I wake up from this nightmare.

Just then, I heard the sound of a person running. A well-built young man was running up to where my father and I were relaxing.

"Menessus!" he shouted.

"Yes?"

"Come on, you retard. Let's get some drinks."

The young man started running off in the direction he came from. I looked at my father. He smiled and said, "Go on. The sheep's fine and don't worry. I won't tell your mother."

I nodded and ran after the mysterious man. I wasn't the fittest person I knew but I wasn't low in stamina either. Yet, I could not catch with the young man.

The man seemed to be heading towards what seemed to be a city with massive walls surrounding it.

At the city gates, the young man shouted something and the gates opened. Several men in armour appeared. They watched me with eyes that resembled predators waiting to catch their prey.

The man walked confidently passed the armed men without a second glance. I quickly followed the young man to avoid getting speared by the guards' sharp spears. And damn they were so sharp, I felt a painful in my eyes just by looking at the sharp points.

"Umm.. may I know your name, please?" I said.

"Huh? Name? Don't you recognize me, Menessus? I'm your friend, Paris of Troy."
