"But I don't want to go all by myself!" Paris whined.
I held my hands over my ears as Paris whined while I tried to distance myself from him.
"Come on, Menessus. How can you ditch a friend in need?"
I rubbed my temples already getting a headache from Paris' whining.
"Paris, I've told already. I'm not going to help you with your ridiculous plan." I grumbled. "Helen has several suitors that have sworn an oath to kill whosoever marries that woman. I am completely aware that Helen is one sweet eye candy, but that woman is really too full of herself! She's not your type. There's plenty of fish in the sea! Say...that was kind of catchy. I wonder if they'll you use it generations from now... Anyway, the answer to your question is still no. If you want Helen so badly, you can go get her yourself."
"But Menessus..."
Just then, Hector walked in looking more than pissed.
"Paris! Can you please cut that infernal whining? I am trying to practice. Menessus, how can you stand this brother of mine?" Hector growled.
I shrugged. "Your guess is as good as mine."
Hector pulled Paris by the arm and headed to the practice room. "Come on, wimp. Practice time."
Paris just groaned but willingly let himself be pulled by his brother. I wondered to myself how two brothers could be so different.
"Why are you standing all by yourself, Menessus?" someone asked all of a sudden.
It was Cassandra, one of Paris' and Hector's sister. A lot of people thought Laodice was King Priam's most beautiful daughter but I begged to differ. She was stunning. No, she was beyond stunning. It was like Aphodrite blessed her more than Pandora. Those beautiful brown locks of hers. I could put my face in it all day. And those lips... I sighed.
"...and why are you sighing, Menessus?" Cassandra asked with a look of puzzle on her face.
"I...er...am feeling tired...no wait..." I said really fast. Argh! I feel like such an idiot!
"Are you sure you're okay, Menessus?" Cassandra with a small grin on her face.
That grin. One word. Wow.
"Wow?"
"Huh?" I asked looking confused.
"You said wow."
"I did?"
"Yes, yes. Yes you did."
"No, I didn't. No, no. I am sure."
"Okay then." Cassandra said and walked away.
I stared at her back. Then, I walked after her.
"Hey, Cassandra wait." I said.
"Yes, Menessus? Missed the sound of my melodious voice? she said as she giggled.
"No I was just not sure what to think."
"Well, I think you like me."
I stopped dead in my tracks.
"Gotcha" she said.
"Okay, fine. You caught me. How did you figure it out is it part of your blessing given by Apollo?"
"Actually, Apollo blessed me with foresight. I figured it out through your body language."
"Body language?" I asked "Does that mean my body speaks?"
"No, silly. People are unconsciously expressing their emotions via their body movements."
"That's really impressive."
"Thank you. Most people think I'm weird when I tell them about body language. Polyxena even said something mean to me..." Cassandra said as tears filled her eyes. "Apollo placed a curse on my future tellings. No one believes me when I predict the future. Everybody only wants to listen to my twin, Helenus. And all this is because I didn't want to love Apollo. How could I? I always felt so inferior that I don't deserve a god's love let alone a mortal man's love."
Tears streamed down Cassandra's cheeks.
I was speechless. How can such a beautiful woman have a sad life? And what's wrong with Apollo? Putting a curse on an innocent woman just because he couldn't get her love.
I held Cassandra close to me. She felt so nice and warm.
"I don't think you're weird, Cassandra. In fact, I think you're the most amazing woman I have ever met." I said in her ear.
"You're just saying that to make feel better."
"No. I mean it."
She looked up at me and smiled. Her angelic smile. Cassandra and I spent the next several weeks getting to know each other more. King Priam was rather strict with her daughters, so I had to sneak Cassandra out of the palace when King Priam was heavily occupied with running Troy.
Spending time with Cassandra flew by very fast. But I must admit, the best times were the ones where we took our time. I don't want to be TOO detailed over our 'activities', heh heh, so I'll just say my life was perfect. Perfect until the day I saw HER.
...Paris, you idiot.
