Scarlett Schwartz

I open my eyes. I have no clue where I am. This could be heaven except I don't remember dying. Someone is coming towards me. I can't help but feel happy. My mom.

"Sleeping beauty finally woke up!" she smiles and kisses my forehead. I pull back.

"Aren't you supposed to be somewhere else? With that hippie boyfriend of yours?" I glare at her.

"That is what your father told you?" she laughs. Charming. She is very graceful.

"Yes. Is there a different reason?"

"There are many things you don't know. Right now, I'm your mother and you need rest" she gets up and takes something from her purse. "Drink this sweetheart"

I take it automatically and drink it.  Her words are so powerful I don't think it is possible for me to say no to her. I know she's my mother, but she feels so distant. No- she feels different. Strange.

"I should go now" she says and walks out. The room feels very empty after she leaves. There is something about her. She fills up every place she walks into with warmth and love. I feel the liquid coursing through my veins. I feel so much better now. I make a mental note to ask about it next time I meet her; if I meet her.

I may be in a hospital room. "Scarlett Schwartz " is written boldly on a box containing pills next to me. The walls are dull grey and I am connected to some machines. My sides are hurting and my temple is badly bruised. My hands and legs are bandaged in many parts. I wonder how long I've been here. I pass out again.
