"It was a once in a lifetime thing, it's too bad for us.
That our once in a lifetime happened when we were too young to handle it."
Jake has never experience that one type of love. That one True kind of Love, but after graduating his four years of high school he soon realizes that his love has been there all along but when certain problems arise their love is in very difficult hands to stop them from staying together.
"I don't need much. Warm bed, clean socks, milk in the fridge, and a nice girl to come home to." I say to her father. Flicking my eyes back to the girl I would write books about, sing about and kiss every inch of her body if none of her family were sitting around us right now.
"Modern romantic, I see." Her father leans forward a little, placing his glass of whiskey down on the glass table in front of him, unamused by the sudden affection floating in the air between his daughter and me. "Can I just give you a piece of advice?"
He picks up his glass and hovers it over his mouth for a minute while he talks, "Speaking from someone who has been married for two decades." He pauses and takes his final sip, draining all the liquid from his glass. "You know-um love is uh-" He places his now empty glass back onto the table. "- Oh wonderful. But it's not all you need. You also need things like health insurance, BPO, and unromantic things like mortgages." He waves his hands around, and then slowly claps them as he is trying to win his point.
I let out a small chuckle, "I get that, and I'm sure I'll have all those things one day, but I do believe love comes first. You know?" My eyes turn back to Hayley, her face unreadable but her eyes are trained on me as mine is to her. "And at the end of the day what's more important than that?"
"Oxygen." Joseph, her brother mumbles in letting out a small snicker. His girlfriend lightly slaps him on the chest.
"Shut up Joe."
"You know, I have seen it first hand. I know what it's like when, its there, I know when it's not."
Her father's eyes lift slightly. "So you've been in love before?"
"No, but my parent's were. When they were in high School. It made sense." I smile a little. "And that's what I want to find. True love. The kind you fight for. That you always put first. That make you want to be good, do better. And not with just any girl. The girl. " I slowly turn my head to her, who is sitting next to her father. "And when I find that. That's all I need."
