Small chapters (that are placed over each four years at high school), which all link together; however they are not main chapters, they just give a quick insight into the life before Jake's life took a wild spin with Hayley. So rather than skipping ahead to the first chapter please find time to read these quick shorts.
But if you choose to skip the first five linked in chapters then that's your choice, however, the story will be a little harder to understand or parts may be a little less full of information.
