Before I saw YOU
There. A simple girl. However yet so perfect. Stacking her books carefully into her locker, her lip was twisted, her tongue sticking out a little as her eyes were fixated on trying to balance the books on top of each other. I gulped. Her fragile hands finally place the last red heavy book into the middle of her locker. But as careful as she tried to place it, they all come tumbling down- like the wall I had built around my heart, the pieces of the imaginary bricks smashing to the ground. - Like her books scattering all over the marble floor giving me my first chance to get near you.
"Bro what took you so long?" Heath bumps his shoulder against mine, moving his bag up further on his shoulders. His hair is growing longer than we both thought it could get.
"My dad wanted to show me around the car garage this morning." I grin, my mouth spreading almost to each eye. "I start next week."
I get a large punch in the shoulder from Heath's fist. Pain shoots through my muscles as I clench my hands reeling from the impact. He starts jumping up and down as we walk towards the large doors of the school.
"Dude! That awesome!" He grins, throwing his arms up in the air and I flinch. Scared of another punch coming my way. But it doesn't come, so my body relaxes. "What about that job though at the restraint?" His face scrunch's as he begins to walk sideways monitoring my face.
"Well, we can't really get the valet job when we can't drive. We'll get it next year I promise."
He stops, causing me to halt too. "But-"
"Heath, we need to focus on school and I need to focus on the garage." This earns me a large groan and he slumps down a little, the straps on his bag slipping down again. "Don't forget about all the girls we're going to get!" I try. It works.
"You know what, you right." He smirks as his dark green eyes sparkle. "Time to get me a girl." He swings an arm around my shoulder and slaps my back hard, twice.
I throw him a quick uneasy grin and we begin to walk again. The high arches welcome the freshmen-us- to our first day of high school. Soon that will be a different sign in four years time. Ill be out of this place and be working full time in my dad's car shop.
The school is painted a messy greyish brown, and the tinted windows on the second floor look as if they haven't been clean in years. The school is overflowing with students as they rush to their new lockers or classes. I, on the other hand, am linked to Heath under his arm and there is no escape.
Suddenly a large figure comes out of nowhere; popping me out of the lock Heath had me in. I sigh as almost gratitude for the tall jock that turns around to apologies. His hair is golden brown and his smile flickers as he scans me.
"Fresh meat, sorry about that bro. Welcome to High School!"
I swallow down a gulp and nod; he slowly turns and walks off into the crowd.
A small buzzing noise coming from Heaths pocket, pulling me back from staring at the large guy making his way down the hall.
Heath slips out his large black phone and starts to tap away at the glass. My eyes shift from each side of the corridor, trying to get a sense of where we are going.
But what I see is completely different.
There. A simple girl. However yet so perfect. A dark figure step in front of us, slim glasses placed on a large wrinkly nose. He places a white square piece of paper in front of us. "No phones in hallway boys. Lunch Detention"
And just like that, my chance is gone.
"Oh man!" Heath snatches the white slip, shoving his phone into his pocket again before the teacher can snatch it. He turns to me, a sly smirk on his lips. "This is totally not a good first day to our new high school."
Tell me about it.
