Chapter 16- Family Is A Tough Subject....

Luna's Pov: 

I open my eyes to be blinded by light. The door to my room is still closed but I'm the only one left in my room. Vic and Natalie must have already got up. Well duh else they would be in here. I get my phone from off my bedside table and check the time. 12:49. Well I guess I should get up. As soon as I set my phone down the door opens and Vic walks. 

"Luna!" Vic says while he walks over to me.

"Um yes?" I answer

"I told you that people were coming at 1 well some people are already here and you're still in bed!" He yells. I flinch not expecting him to yell at me. He sighs and sits on the bed and runs his hands through his hair.

"I'm sorry for lashing out on you I'm just super stressed. Jaime did this without anyone else's permission." He says and looks at me.

"It's okay I'll get dressed okay?" I say and stand up. I take Vic's hands and pull him up so that he is also standing. 

"Okay." He says quietly and looks down at me. I smile and peck his lips and then he leaves so that I can get dressed. 

I quickly comb my hair but it looks horrible so I just put in a messy bun. Then grab a dark grey shirt and black high waisted skinny jeans that are ripped at the knees. I tuck some of the shirt into the pants and let the rest just hand freely then to top it off I put on a light grey cardigan and my black keds. I quickly examine my look in the mirror and walk out of Natalie and I's room.

I enter the living room and see a lot of the bands parents and the girls parents. Vic is sitting on the couch but as soon as he sees me he gets up. And walks over to me. He has a tiny look of worry on his face. He places his hands on my hips but doesn't say anything. I look around him and realize Natalie and Kellin aren't there.

"Where's Natalie?" I ask Vic. Vic looks down and bites his lip.

"Vic where is she?" I ask again after a few seconds pass. 

"Well.....She sort of had a panic attack when she realized what was going on..." Vic says looking at me again.

Memories flood into my mind. I turn around and walk away from Vic his hands now leaving my waist. The more I think the more worried I get. Walking turns into fast walking. Fast walking turns into jogging.

My mind doesn't think. My legs just take me. I end up outside. Then I end up in the woods. Then a hill. And there in front of me is Natalie sitting there. Her lilac hair draped over her shoulders. Her head down. Her arms hugging her knees. Exactly how and where I expected her to be. 

You see Natalie and I both went through depression in 6th grade. It was my first time going through it and Natalie's second. And every time we're feeling depressed or anxious or angry we end up in a empty field or on a hill.

For me fields and hills were my safe place. The place where my demons couldn't reach me. The place where the taunting voices were mute. It was a place to run when things were too much. The emptiness of fields were my safe haven. The rolling hills made my heart still. The fresh air was like medicine for my lungs.

One day after school I was so done with my family judging me and done with the rudeness of the world I ran to an empty field down the street from my house. I sat there for what was probably hours. And without even telling Natalie where I was she found me and all she did was sit down next to me. Now ever since that day we've always gravitated to fields and hills. 

I walk up to Natalie and sit down next to her. She's wearing her usual attire. A leather crop top, black high waisted skinny jeans with one knee ripped and her black converse.

 I look at her and she lifts her face up. Instead of seeing her usual confident happy face I see fear and tear streaked cheeks. 

"They're coming Luna! All of them! My mom, my dad, Callie, Mazie, and even Jewels! All of them are coming!" Natalie exclaims and tears brim her eyes again. Callie is her oldest sister who is 36 Mazie is 33 and Jewels is 29. 

"Natalie maybe they've changed it's been a long time you know?" I say in as gentle a voice I can manage. 

"How could they have changed? My dad is a homophobe! My mom is overly caring to the point that she hurts me and other people by her words! Jewels is just completely and utterly rude! And the last time I saw Mazie she was a mess! And Callie is too busy with her boyfriend to pay any attention to me!" Natalie says while throwing her hands up in the air and laying back onto her back. 

"When was the last time you talked to them?" I ask her even though I already know the answer. Natalie moved in with me as soon as she could to get away from her family. She cut all ties with her family and even changed her phone number so they couldn't message her but I still talked to them and still do right now. I know how all of them are doing but she doesn't. I've never mentioned to her that I still talk to them but I'm pretty sure she knows I do. What she doesn't know is that Natalie's dad has come to accept that Natalie is bi. Her mom still asks about her all the time and that's only because she loves Natalie with all her heart. Jewels now works for The Make A Wish Foundation and is engaged to the nicest most polite man I've ever talked to. Mazie lives with her best friend and has almost fully recovered from her anxiety and other issues. And Callie got married to her boyfriend, has a 2 year old kid and a 7 month baby who have never met their aunt.

"When I left." She says.

"Natalie that was over 3 years ago. Can you just try to talk to them today?" I ask.

"Fine but if they make me only slightly mad I'm going to my room and staying there for the rest of the night." She says and I nod. I stand up and brush the grass off my bottom and legs then I help Natalie up and she does the same. When we we're about to start walking back to the house a exhausted Kellin comes jogging up the hill.

"Natalie *gasps for air* I've been *gasps* looking everywhere for you!" Kellin says and bends over trying to get more air. Natalie giggles. 

"Kelly bear let's go back to the house." She says and jumps on his back.

"GOALS" I yell at them and they both laugh. Kellin gives Natalie a piggyback ride back to the house and I walk beside them. 

When we get back to the house Kellin gives Natalie a piggyback ride until they enter the living room everyone goes silent at the sight of them. Natalie gets off Kellin and just stands beside him. Natalie's mom turns around to see why everyone is quiet now. When she sees Natalie she looks happy but shocked at the same time. 

"Oh my.. Natalie you're so grown up!" She exclaims. I'm guessing she's surprised to see Natalie with a bunch of tattoos and piercings. Natalie has a nose piercing, lip piercing, a bunch of ear peircings , and a belly button piercing while I only have a nose and first and second ear piercings. Natalie has 5 tattoos. A matching infinity ring on her middle finger with me, a paper clip on her pointer finger, a arrow behind her ear, on one wrist she has 'Stay Strong' and on the other she has 'Darling you'll be okay' and then I have my infinity ring,'Love Yourself' on my wrist, a camera on my ankle, and the bird cage one on my hip.  Then she looks over to me and looks just as surprised.

"You too Luna! You both look so.....prison like?" She says. Ouch not the best thing to say to someone after not seeing them for almost 4 years. 

"Mom please play nice." Natalie says. 

"I'm sorry I'm sorry! Will you please just come here  and hug me?" Natalie's mom says and opens her arms for Natalie. Natalie runs up to them and gives each of them a hug. I join Vic where he's standing against the wall and slip my hand into his. 

"Nice work." He whispers in my ear and kisses my forehead. I rest my head on his shoulder and let out a sigh of relief. One obstacle over! Now my day will be easy! But then the front door opens.

And would you know it there comes Mama and Papa Fuentes.
