Amy
I sit in my normal chair in my normal class with the normal tiredness. The night sifts must be getting to me. With a yawn I scribble down some notes. Mr Coventry, my English teacher, starts to talk to the class. My eyes slowly close until I hear my most hated word.
Partners.
I sit straight upward and I feel my face lose all colour.
"Ah, Amy, since you have the highest average in the class you'll be with Daniel. I think you will benefit each-others work." He says and I start seeing black spots. This can't be happening. He calls out the other partners and luckily the bell goes.
I run out and I go to the end of the hall where my locker sits peacefully. I open it and I take a deep breath. I calm down, I take one last deep breath but this time it's not just air, its strong cologne and leather scented.
I turn around but see no one. No one comes here, there are no classrooms. I put my things away and I take my old and battered phone and slide it into my back pocket. I take my keys and I walk out of school. I look around and see everyone with their cars. Daniel and his gang are hanging around their motorbikes smoking and I shudder. My life would be easier if I had a car or any other form of transportation but I just can't afford it.
I jog home and I open the door. I put my bag down and I see the hole at the bottom let a pencil fall. Ill fix it later.
I walk to my mum's room and she slowly smiles at me, I smile back and I sit by her on her bed. Her wild blonde hair sticks up around her and her bright blue eyes look at me with happiness.
"How's your day been mum? Any fits?" I ask. She slowly sits up.
"Just the one today sweetie." She says and smiles, making her full lips smooth out. She has severe epilepsy amongst other things, it started when I was seven, and there was a complication when she had a brain tumour removed.
I get her medication and I help her take it. We were on benefits but when I got a job to help pay all the medical bills and normal bills they were taken away, I've been working ever since.
Today I start another job. I'm a call in bar maid. My night shift is every other night with my job at a 24hour petrol station and with this job I'll fill in my empty nights. I have a weekend job at a café and another week day job at a family friends repair shop. I usually sleep after school and mornings and do my homework during work.
Today I have the day off from my day job so I can get ready for the new job. I put a wash on and I grab my bag. I sew the bag hole closed and I get ready for work. I make sure my mum is asleep and I go to The Rocking Raven, the new bar in town.
I put my hair in a highly ponytail and I walk into the stuffy room. It's packed as its late at night, the bar manager throws me into work. I start pouring the drinks and the night seems ok. I smell a familiar smell of leather and cologne and I look around. It's too dark. I take the tequila I was pouring and I do it myself.
Once the burning subsides I pour the man a new drink. I get into a rhythm again and soon enough my shift is over.
I walk out the staff exit. I see people smoking outside but I ignore them. I forgot a jumper and in England, you need one. I sigh and hold myself as I start my walk home.
I have a very quick shower and I fall asleep on my bed, AKA the sofa.
I wake up and put my mums meds by her bed and get ready for school.
I look in the full length mirror and I bite my lip.
I'm five foot eight and I have thick brown straight hair. My eyes I'd describe as copper. My lips are full and my skin pale. I am quite skinny due to my diet being limited to my mums leftovers.
