Chapter 4

Avery's POV

"Okay, you need to wear something absolutely stunning to the boardwalk," Harmony said pulling things from my closet.

I rolled my eyes and flopped back on my bed. "Why do I have to dress nicely? Why can't I just wear this?" I asked throwing my hands up and pointing down at my soccer clothes.

She spun around and glared at me. "Avery, I know you are," she paused and thought, "sporty," she smiled at me and I threw her glare back at her. "But the guys in LMNO noticed you yesterday. They were all interested in you. Well, all except Noah," she said blushing. "Don't you want to show them the best you?"

I stared up at the ceiling. But this is the best me, I thought. Ignoring myself I chose the easy way out. "Fine."

I pushed myself up and off of my bed. "I'll shower and when I get back I'll get changed into whatever outfit you want."

Harmony threw her arms around me and squeezed tightly. "Thank you."

I trudged to the bathroom and took my robe and towel off the hanger on the back of the door. I set them on the counter beside the sink and started to take my sweaty clothes off.

When I stepped in the shower, the warm water felt so nice on my back. I let the droplets trickle through my hair and down my neck, toward my back and onto my legs. Showers calmed me. I did my best thinking there. Also my best singing. I wasn't as good as Harmony, but I liked to think I wasn't bad. The shower just made me sound better.

"I can see you hurtin, I've been through the same thing, baby don't you worry, I got you," I belted out. "I just want to know you, tell me all your secrets, lookin like you need it."

As the chorus came I held the shampoo bottle in my hand and up to my mouth. "Cause I got you-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo, you-oo-oo-oo-oh, you-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo, I got you, I got you."

I spun around and squirted some shampoo into my hand. I rubbed it in my hair and massaged my scalp with my finger tips. "We can get high oh nah nah nah, we can get low of nah nah nah."

I whipped my hair around and splashed foamy soap on the shower curtain. "Let me be your friend, baby let me in, tell you no lies oh nah nah nah."

I finished the rest of the song and conditioned my hair. When I stepped out of the shower, there was a cloud of steam filling the room. I wrapped the towel around myself and dried off. I rung my hair out and put it in a bun on the top of my head. I hung my towel back on the door put my robe on.

I walked across the hall and back into my room where Harmony sat on my bed with a full outfit beside her. My eyes got wide as I came closer. She had makeup laid out next to it and necklaces and rings.

"Let's get this show on the road," she said, "We've got a lot to do."

We walked up the board walk toward the huge crowd where the music was coming from. I looked over at Harmony who had a huge smile on her face. I was only dreading what was to come.

I looked down at my white skirt and the colorful cover up I had around off white lace crop top. This was so not me, I thought. I let out a small sigh, but smiled through it as we approached the crowd. At least I was able to talk her out of the heels.

LMNO stood on the stage. They had already started. They were in the middle of their song Roller Coaster. I grabbed Harmony's arm as Liam's eyes locked with mine. She tugged at my arm and pulled me to the front.

We stood in the front row, right up against the stage. Onix knelt in front of me and reached his hand out. I stared at his eyes. They were a dark captivating brown color. It made me feel like I was being pulled into a black whole. When I looked back down my hand was in his as he sang to me. I could feel everyone's eyes on me. I looked to my left and there were cameras on me. I looked to my right and there were cheering fans.

I blinked and pulled my hand back. I backed out of the crowd and kept my head down. Once I was out of the cheering fans I ran to the edge of the pier. The cool ocean air blew over me and I felt like I was returning to earth.

I felt a hand rest on my shoulder and I spun around quickly. It was Harmony. She had a concerned look on her face. I gave her a half smile. "Are you okay?"

I nodded. "I just didn't like the cameras," I said. I hated feeling like I was being watched or my every move was being photographed and remembered.

She smiled at me and looked back at LMNO on the stage. "They're amazing." I smiled. They were kind of good.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Harmony had gone back into the crowd after they finished Roller Coaster. I could tell that she wanted to, but she was such a good friend that she wouldn't make me stand alone. I practically pushed her back into the crowd.
When their set was finished, she found me where I was before. She had a huge smile on her face. "Noah held my hand and sang to me. He blew me a kiss and pointed to me during the song." She looked like she was about to faint.
I was happy that she was so happy though. "I'm glad you had a good time."
"I wish you had too," she said.
"I did. I'm just not one for crowds and being under the spotlight. I like it back here," I said patting the railing.
"Hey," a male voice said. "Avery, right?" Mason strode up to us and stood in front of me and next to Harmony. I nodded. "I'm Mason," he said even though it was clear we both knew.
"Hi," Harmony said next to me. She stuck her hand out to shake his. It was wobbling all around. He smiled and pulled her into a hug.
He pulled away and almost had to pry her off. He turned to me and held his arms out. I shook my head but it was too late. Before I knew it his arms were wrapped around me. I slowly hugged him back so this whole thing could be a little less awkward.
There was a flash of light followed by six more. I pulled away quickly. There were photographers all around us. I hid my face, but Mason didn't seem to mind them. "You get used to it," he whispered.
"Mason, who's the girl that's got you all going crazy?" one of them asked.
I looked at him and then at Mason. I turned my back to all of the cameras. "Hey back up," yelled another male voice. I looked over my shoulder slowly and saw Liam coming to the rescue. He didn't touch any of them but somehow he managed to get them to back up. He placed his hand on my back and stood next to me. "Are you alright?" he asked.
I nodded. "Thanks." I pushed a strand of my curled hair behind my ear and smiled up at him.
He smiled back and took his hand away from my back. There was another flash from the cameras. "I'm sorry about them," he said apologizing even though it was out of his control.
I shrugged. "Avery, why did you run away from me? Did my breath smell?" Onix asked as he came toward me. "Were my hands sweaty?" I laughed at him.
"No," I said shaking my head. "It wasn't you."
He smiled. "Good, I didn't want to turn you away that quickly."
I looked toward Harmony who I hadn't even noticed was talking to Noah. They were deep in conversation. They didn't even notice the photographers snapping pictures repeatedly.
The next act had started, indicating it was nine o'clock. I grabbed a hold of Harmony's arm. "I have to get home."
"Again?" she complained.
"You can stay," I said nodding toward Noah and winking, "but I have to get home. It's getting late."
She smiled to Noah, but looked back at me. "Alright, let's go." She asked Noah for a hug and he happily gave her one. The three other guys looked at me for hugs, but I shook my head. I knew the cameras were still around. I smiled at them and grabbed Harmony's arm as I dragged her away from Noah.
