I am Sang.

"You'll get used to it eventually, just let Gabe do what he does best. We've all been through it." Luke whispers into my ear as I'm pulled away by Gabriel.

I'm pushed into a chair and told to sit still.
"Fucking shit Sang, what the hell happened to your hair?"
I try my best to imagine my hair but it had been so long before I had taken much notice of it.
"I don't know, I'm growing it out?" I offer. That part was true. It was the first time my mum had let me go to school as Sang instead of Sam, the name I had been made to go by for most of my life to protect my identity for reasons I wasn't allowed to know. I assumed my hair must have been that weird transition between short and long.
"Like hell you are growing it out. I'm going to fix it and give you one of those really cool pixie cut things ok?"
I open my mouth to reply but he doesn't wait for a reply.
"Ok great, Luke go get my scissors."

Before I know it Luke has returned and Gabriel gets to work on my hair.
"So like why is your hair so shitty?" Okay yeah probably should have seen that coming.
"It's such a nice colour but the most awkward length ever."
"Well, um, my mum agh.." Shit how can I explain it without telling them everything?
"She made me cut it and keep it short and I wanted to grow it out and start fresh." Not a lie.
"Oh well you are going to look like a fucking Princess now so deal with it."
I could see him deflate a little at that and I suddenly felt really bad.
"Yeah I'm sure it'll look great, the cut I used to have was really simply and ugly. But if I have a nice cut I'm sure I'll enjoy it being short."

"Ok I'm done Trouble."
"Trouble?" I ask confused at the nickname.
"Yeah Trouble, you look like Trouble."
"Oh ok."
Luke comes up to me with a mirror in hand to show me my new hair.
I gasp. It's perfect, totally cool and badass... The exact opposite of my personality. A perfect shield.
"Oh my God, Gabe it's perfect."
I jump up and give him a hug an action I don't think I've ever initiated. I'd been around these guys for less than a week and they were already changing me for the better.
