The girls I met at camp.

It's the second night of camp and we are making our way down to the campfire after dinner but first have to stop back to the cabins.
"Alright, everyone don't forgot to grab your torches and jumpers. And maybe put on longer pants." Kota barks at us before we even get back to the cabin.
"Yes mum." Shona teases before sticking her tongue out at Kota.
"Oh Shona, don't forgot the first aid pouch." Kota adds.
"I may be a doctor outside of camp but they have first aid attendants here and I'm not taking the supplies down that hill only to bring them back up again." Shona retorts back at her as Nora grumbles something about the 'stupid fucking hill' while she pull on her black leather jacket.

We leave the cabins with our jackets and torches in tow with only small bursts of grumbles from a few of the girls. When we get to the hill Natasha and Luca run down and sit, heads together chatting. Gabrielle, Victoria, Shona and I follow at a slow jog just fast enough to comfortably descend the hill. Sophie, Ofelia, Nora and Kota follow at a walk behind us with Nora grumpy as ever.

We reach the fire which is already roaring and find a crate of marshmallows and other fire side essentials left to us by the camp leaders.
We all sit down and begin digging around in the crate for marshmallows and sticks to begin roasting marshmallows.
After we had roasted all of the marshmallows we sat in silence for a little while getting bitten by mosquitoes.
"Did anybody bring down any mosquitos spray?" Sophie asks in her thick Greek accent clearly disgruntled about the mosquitos.
"I'll go get it!" Luca offers almost too quickly.
"Sang? Do you want to come with me?"
I begin to shake my head but then catch the glint in her eyes and change my mind.
Before we set off up the hill I see Luca exchange a glance with Natasha before merrily pulling me up the hill.

We get up the cabins and grab the mosquito repellent and change our pants into skinny jeans to ward off the mosquitoes unaffected by the spray.
Before we make our way back down the hill Luca informs me of the plan to scare Gabby and briefs me on what to do.
I begin my decent down the hill as silently as possible to try not to bring Luca's absence into notice too early knowing she was making her way down the other side of camp toward the fire in the opposite direction.

I get to the fire pit and sit down to listen to Nat's horror story she appears to be quite a way into. I. Can see Gabby shivering on the other side of the fire clearly afraid. Before long I see Luca too, slinking silently down the hill towards Gabby.

As soon as Natasha reached the climax of her story Luca jumps out from her hiding place straight onto Gabby who screams and jumps up, barely missing the fire. I smile but feel bad at the same time before I remember that Luca will be easily forgiven because that just how this family works, one of the many reasons why I'm so thankful I get to be with my girls again tonight.
