12 December 2015

Sebastian saw her enter the roof. His expression must have resembled of a deer caught in light, he thought as he quickly scanned her. She was wearing the classic SpongeBob SquarePants pajamas – the same one she wore on the first night she met him. The only thing that was different was her expression. Her expression that day had resembled playful childishness, but now it was of shock.

She was surprised on seeing him, it was give that she would have been. After all it wasn't a secret he was avoiding her. Making sure not to come to the roof; spending the last two nights in his gym. But he couldn't keep on chickening out, and hiding, so here he was:

Ready for all her questions with all his lies. ; a strategy he had devised to survive this questionnaire. He wasn't ready to face the facts, yet. It was too early.

"Hey, Roars," the nickname rolled off his tongue naturally. But he didn't care, after all she called him Sebby so it was only fair if he gave her another baddish nickname.

Rory's eyes widened for a split second. How did he know of this nickname?

"What did you call me?"

"Roars?" his voice resembling his puzzlement.

"Don't call me that," she all but snapped.

"Why?" he smirked, "You don't like it, huh?"

"No," she breathed in, before quickly adding, "My mom used to call me that."

Sebastian nodded. He knew what she was doing. She was trying to apologize for the simple question she had asked two nights back by letting him in about hers. He wasn't stupid, he understood her mom had either left her or died, the emphasis on the past tense signified that.

But he also realized it wouldn't be smart to ask her the next obvious question - What happened? SpongeBob Girl would tell him what happened in her own pace, asking her would only make her regret her decision of letting him.

He smiled at her, as if acknowledging her wordless apology. It was easy to talk to somebody who was as messed up as you were. A lot of words weren't required to explain yourself; it made everything simple.

She was the reason he had returned to Aurora Apartment, because as much as she couldn't see it, Rory was just like him and he couldn't lose her for himself.

He was being selfish, but then again he didn't really give a damn.

They both needed each other for the same reason. No matter how much Rory hated his guts or how many secrets Sebastian kept, they were good for each other contrary to their beliefs.

"I thought you were avoiding me?" Her voice broke the awkward silence that had fallen.

"Yeah, I did give it a shot. But then hearing you talk about shit is nice, hence voila!" He stated pointing at himself and then around the roof. He grinned.

Rory turned her face away quickly, breaking their eye contact, as if looking at him burnt him. She knew he would understand if she ever opened up, but the thing was she couldn't. And she couldn't allow him to look at her like she was good when she had just spent yesterday whoring around with him.

Her voice didn't let her emotional turmoil escape, "Yeah. I knew you'd realize I'm extremely missable someday, King," she smirked.

"Missable isn't even a word."

"You're not even denying it. Did you actually miss me, Pretty Boy," her smirk widened.

"O'yes milady; all day are nights to see till I see you, and nights bright days when dreams do show thee me."

Laughter rung out in the night, her hair falling out of the makeshift buns as she bent down to catch her breath, rasping out "Did you just quote Shakespeare to me, you dork."

"Major in Psychology and Minor in Literature at NYU," he replied as if that answered all her queries, amusement tinkling from his eyes. Her laughter wasn't close to musical notes in the night or anything. But it made him satisfied because it proved she was human.

"Excuses, excuses," she tsked.

"You got me, babe," he winked, "I have been in love with you since the first day I met you. Let's go on a date."

"Sorry, but this booty ain't for you, Pretty Boy," she snorted.

She liked how he could quickly make her forget all the screwed up shit in her life. It was fun being around with him, stressing but fun.

She smiled at him. Sebastian just stared at her, his heart beating faster than normal. It was silly what her smile was doing to him, it was pointless to dwell on those thoughts but it also never stopped them.

"Don't do those disappearing acts on me, promise?"

He hesitated on replying, the major two reasons prompting instantly on not replying in his mind:

1. He disliked promises, because all the ones he had ever, usually ended up broken.

2. He didn't believe himself that he could fulfill that one.

So he did the only thing that made sense: he diverted her attention.

"And here I thought you hated me?"

"Oh don't you worry about that. I hate you plenty, but I need a clown around to do stupid shit, y'know," she knew he never answered her question.

Maybe that is for the best. Remember Roars, distance.

"Glad I could be of your service, Madame." He did a mock bow.

It surprised him that throughout all their conversation, Rory never brought up her questions, the very question for which he had thought up various lies. The only thing that had resembled them was the one he avoided.

He couldn't have answered that. Not because he didn't want to but because he couldn't answer the truth and he didn't want to lie to that. The truth being that he would run away at the slightest implication of getting caught in his web of lies.

That was the only way he could comprehend
