I put my head up and ran a hand through my hair to tame my wavy locks in place, having a minute to calm myself about this Farkle thing. I was distracted when my elbow nudged an object as I looked up.

When I looked up my eyes saw some ingredients placed on the kitchen counter. There were baking trays, flour, eggs, milk, icing sugar, and all kinds of toppings you can imagine. It looks like ingredients for some kind of cake.

Wait.. A cake??

"FARKLE?!" I yelled still eyeing the ingredients on the kitchen counter.

"Riley is there something wrong?" Farkle ran into the kitchen looking around then planted his eyes on me as he walked over to where I was standing.

"What's this?" I nod towards the ingredients as Farkle turned his head sideways to see what I was looking at.

"Oh that?" He says breathing a sigh of relief.

"Yes that?" I questioned.

"My mom just gave me a recipe to make a dozen cupcakes for my little cousins birthday party," Farkle picked up a piece of paper filled with his mom's neat handwriting and waved it around before placing it back down on the kitchen counter.

"I literally forgot but I'll do it quickly later," Farkle shrugged looking at me weirdly as my mouth widened into one of those big iconic grins of mines.

"No we should bake them right now, I want to help you," I cheered clapping my hands together.

"You want to bake?" Farkle raised his eyebrows as I nodded enthusiastically.

"Okay then," He smiled at me as he walked around to the other end of the kitchen and came back with two aprons. He gave me one as I thanked him and I put the apron on and secured it around my body.

"It's funny how we did a math recipe question and here we are getting ready to bake," I grinned as Farkle hummed in response as we washed our hands and dried them off afterwards.

"Right this is the recipe and the ingredients are here. We are making simple Vanilla cupcakes but with different coloured icing and decorations," Farkle said as he placed the recipe in front of us as I looked down to read the list of ingredients whilst nodding as I tied my hair up in a ponytail.

Ingredients:
175 g butter (at room temperature), cut into large pieces
175 g self-raising flour
175 g caster sugar
3 large eggs
1/2 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
2-3 tbsp milk
350 g icing sugar, sifted
White/Blue edible colouring
Edible pink hearts, sprinkles, glacier cherries, chocolate buttons to decorate

Farkle went over to the oven to preheat the oven to 180°C/gas mark 4. While I got to work lining a 12-hole muffin tin with paper cupcake cases.

Farkle came over and we one by one added all the ingredients into a large bowl and Farkle beat the bowl with an electric hand whisk until the ingredients in the bowl was smooth and evenly mixed. I divided the mixture evenly between the paper cases and we both worked in a comfortable silence occasionally sharing a few words here and there.

After that Farkle put the cakes in the over to bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cakes are well risen and firm on top. When the time was up he transferred the tray to a wire rack to cool.

Meanwhile, me and Farkle got started on the icing. Together we put the butter, vanilla extract, two tablespoons of the milk, and half the icing sugar in a large bowl and beat until smooth.

I got started putting half of the icing into another bowl and coloured it pale blue with the edible colouring. Farkle came over and helped me carefully spoon this down one side of a piping bag fitted with a number eight star nozzle, then spoon the non-coloured icing down the other side of the bag.
