The cemetery was small and filled with old wooden crosses. No grave was marked and yet Jade knew exactly where she was going. I gave her space and walked aimlessly around the graves, making sure not to step on any of the mounds, until I saw her stop.
She crumbled to the ground and I turned my eyes away. I started away from her, farther into the cemetery so I could give her as much time as she needed.
Because it was farther away, we had picked up Asher and he was sitting in a makeshift crib on Jordan. I was keeping an eye on, peeking back every so often. I had given Potts fair warning and she had refused to leave Annabella's side. That made me smile.
"Okay," Jade walked up next to me. I nodded and we headed towards Jordan, "thank you."
"You're welcome," I told her, "remember if you need anything all you have to do is ask."
"Okay," Jade said as she climbed on after me, "can we have no more hugs?"
"Sorry, can't do that one," I told her with a chuckle as we jumped into the air. Asher was in Jade's arms as we soared through the clouds.
"No running off," I told her as we landed in the clearing.
"Fine," she said, "let's go the quick way."
I agreed and followed her down towards a less noticeable path. We walked in silence as the sunlight danced between the branches.
"Do you think this is really it?" Jade asked.
"What?" I asked her.
"The end of the world?" Jade asked, "are you really that accepting of it?"
"I don't know," I said, "I've been told by multiple monsters that it is. And they have no reason to lie especially when they have the power to do so. We barely survived Norrix. Some of us didn't. How can we possibly beat the thing that gave him that power?"
"We're not going to just give up though, right?"
"No," I told her, "we're just going to save the baby that can stop it from happening to other worlds."
"He's going to do it to," Jade said with a grin,"he's going to be a hero. I already know it."
"He is," I said as I reached out and stroked his hair.
We walked in silence and rested only when necessary. When darkness came, we kept on, both of us too anxious to rest.
Especially when hearing the voices of the forest.
It wasn't until we came near the castle when we heard something really disturbing.
Battle cries.
"Stay with him!" Jade yelled as she started forward with her sword out. I nodded as I pulled Asher closer to me. I crept ahead as after she disappeared.
The castle courtyard was littered with people. I narrowed my eyes at the dark armor and angry faces. It didn't totally alarm my until my eyes found Erin.
"No," I muttered as I stumbled back down the trail a few steps. I hadn't caught a sight of Jade.
Where has she left to?
