Lauren stares at her reflection in the mirror as she plays with a deck of cards in her hands. She has always been so fascinated in the beauty of cardistry and how one can perform a certain illusion with just the simple dexterity of one's hand.
This has been Lauren's specialty for quite a while now. Apart from the many illusions she tries to pull off, she always found herself back into using cards, as she considers them her comfort zone.
The beep from her laptop caused Lauren to broke away from the thoughts she's making in her head. She walked towards the center table in the living room of her small apartment, opening up her mailbox in the process.
Congratulations on passing your initial examination! Attached in this message is the details regarding your next art examination, in which you are tasked to put up a portfolio that would manifest the certain theme that is given to you. The message read.
Lauren let out a huge sigh of relief. See, she has always wanted achieve so much in her life. Apart from magic, Art has always served as a huge part of Lauren's life, that's why she has been trying so hard to apply to different universities around the United States and even in other countries, just so she can break away from her current life.
Not that she doesn't love it as it is. She has always loved magic, and she knows it holds a special place in her heart. But she always wanted to do more than just magic. She wants to have a career in something else, something that she knows she will greatly be successful in.
Lauren can't seem to hide the huge smile on her face as she read the footnote of the message, Royal College of Art - United Kingdom
"This is it." She said to herself. "One step closer to the dream."
The ringing of her phone caused her to jump, making her walk towards the kitchen to grab her phone from the counter.
"Oh shit." She said under her breath as she looks at who's calling. She didn't answer the call as she knew what the person on the other line would say. Instead, she just stood up and went to the bathroom to get a shower.
Lauren rummages through her things as she looks for her baseball cap, something that she considers to be her lucky charm. She puts on her black leather jacket on top of her mint green colored crop top, complementing the black ripped jeans she's also wearing.
She hurriedly goes out of her apartment, knowing that she is already late. The panel might be angry again. She thought to herself as he goes through a sea of people in downtown Manhattan, looking for that familiar red-brick building she usually goes at for her meetings with The Eye.
Finally. She thought, going in through the revolving doors of the building entrance.
The closer you look, the less you'll actually see. She thought to herself as the door spins, revealing a symbol of The Eye on top. She has always been fascinated of how her society designed this door, knowing that only a few people who would actually deem to not look too close would see it. It's sort of like a hologram, and every time she sees it, she always felt genuinely happy inside.
"You're late." An all too familiar voice spoke up when she entered the dimly-lit room. "Again."
Lauren sighed as she takes a seat on one of the chairs around a circular wooden table. Leaning her elbows on the flat surface, Lauren looked at the familiar man in front of him, his eyes narrowed right at her. "I'm sorry, okay." Lauren spoke, removing her cap in the process. "I overslept." She lied, of course, as she doesn't want anyone to know of the possibility of her eventually moving to United Kingdom, leaving everything behind - magic, her family in the society and just basically everything.
