"No." Lauren immediately spoke once she saw her photo placed above a file - her file. It was her, the final person to complete the group.
"Lau--"
"No." She cut Dylan off, raising both of her palms up.
Keith sat frozen, looking back and forth at the exchange of words between Lauren and the two leaders of The Eye.
"Lauren, listen." Jessica said, speaking fast so Lauren wouldn't be able to stop her.
Lauren let out a sigh, feeling an endless throbbing with the beat of her heart. "Why did you even choose me?" She asked, anger boiling down on every part of her body. She doesn't want this at all, she doesn't want to be tied up with any more of The Eye's plans because if she does, she wouldn't be able to carry out her own plans for herself.
Dylan opened the folder and showed everyone why they did. "You are the missing piece, Lauren." He said, pointing at the summary of the girl's achievements in just a couple of years. "We've been looking so hard for someone who would complete the group, and eventually realized we were looking too closely at the other magicians we had in store apart from the five of you. But then we realized, we were looking too closely. Someone who belongs to us can already complement the whole group." Dylan said, but his words were pointless to Lauren. She still doesn't want to do this, she doesn't want to be involved anymore.
"Besides, we need someone from the inside once the Horsemen started working together and carrying out the plan." Jessica said, as Keith leaned his elbows on the table, looking at Lauren worriedly. He wanted to say no, don't let them get to you. Do what you want to do. But nothing came out of Keith apart from the worried expression plastered on his face.
Lauren shook her head. "I'm sorry, the what?" She asked, raising an eyebrow at Dylan and Jessica. "The Horsemen?"
Dylan smiled from the corner of his lips. "That's what your going to be called. The Five Horsemen."
Lauren looked helplessly at Keith, waiting for his words of help. Keith knew how much of a dreamer Lauren is. He also knows she doesn't want to be stuck doing just one thing - he knows of her plans, her real plans.
Still, nothing came out from Keith. Disappointment filled Lauren's mind, but then she knew Keith wouldn't say a word, she also knows how Keith is a firm believer of the society and that he will do whatever it takes for them to be successful, no matter what the cost would be.
If he had to choose, Lauren knew Keith would agree with The Eye to send her in this mission. "Why not pick Keith instead?" Lauren asked through the ragged look on her face.
The dark haired boy beside Lauren widened his eyes, not expecting those words coming out of Lauren's mouth.
Jessica let out a sigh in front of the two. "Keith is more of an inside person. We're going to need his hacking skills to help the Horsemen with their plan."
Lauren is starting to get desperate. "Hey, I can hack too, you know? I've been doing it for quite a while. Keith is good with cards, he knows how to do a bunch of different illusions and he kno--"
"Lauren." Dylan's voice from her left stopped her from talking. "It's been decided."
At the corner of her eyes, she saw Keith took a deep breath. Keith is indeed a good magician in his own might, but if you compare the two, Lauren is much better, maybe because she has been doing it far longer than Keith. Lauren has also established a name of her own, as she has been doing street magic for quite a while now, during the times when The Eye doesn't have anything set out for her.
