One

Prologue

There once was a world where the Eagles ruled the skies, Mermaids ruled the seas and the Nijian ruled the ice.

This world was called Traijin.

The Nijian were at war, a war that they slowly but surely loosing against the people of Jiyan.

Queen Nahari, leader of the Nijian knew that if she didn't do something soon the Nijian race would be completely wiped out.

So she did the only thing she thought she could do, have a child with her husband King Novijk.

Nine months later she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and named her Bellona, after the Roman goddess of war.

Immediately after giving birth to Bellona she went into hiding.

The war at this point was coming to it's climax, only a few Nijian were left fighting the advancing Jiyan.

In an act of desperation she sent her precious daughter off with her most trusted guard Alexei into the human world.

But not before giving her a gift.

"With both of our powers, she will be invincible" she said holding her husbands hand in reassurance

"On her sixteenth year they will awaken and she'll feel a power like no other" King Novijk

"And she will return to our fair lands and return peace and order to whatever is left of it and our people"

"The Jiyan people will all but fall at the mercy of her hands"

Queen Nahari removed a finely crafted heart pendant made of no metal recognisable to human kind and clasped it around her small neck.

"This will protect you from any Jiyan who tries to harm you, it will also suppress abilities that will expose you to human's" she said stroking Bellona's cheek

"I do not feel that I could leave her Novijk" she said in a sorrowfull tone 

"You know it is the only way to protect her my love, if they know we had gone with her we would immediately put her in danger"

"I know" she said picking Bellona up and cradling her in her arms "But I wish she wouldn't have to leave, she will have no idea who she is, who we are, who her people are, where she comes from..." she trailed off tearfully

"We must do what is best for the existence of our people and our kingdom" he said putting a comforting hand upon her shoulder " If the people know that she lives, there will be hope"

"My Majesties, Alexei has arrived" a messenger addressed them with a bow of the head.

"He can enter" Novijk boomed, Nahari had been lost for words as she finally knew that this was the time she would be departed from her daughter.

A familiar tall, intimidating man strolled in and bowed at their feet "Rise, my friend" Novijk said curtly.

Alexei was their most trusted guard, adviser and loyal friend, he had fought countless times over the years for their kingdom and was highly regarded as the most fearsome of them all. He was 30 years of age, well built and a very strong Nijian. He had strong features, long raven hair that reached just above his shoulders, a crooked nose that had been broken more than once and slate gray eyes that would pierce into your soul. The tattoos that every Nijian had, curled up his arms in a gothic style that futher intimidated anyone who crossed his path.

"Your Majesties it is my most honorable pleasure to aid our future Queen, Monarch and ruler to the realms of the human kind"

"We hope you will keep herself and yourself safe as heavens knows you will be the last of our people and the key to our survival" the Queen finally spoke up

"Yes my Majesty, I will do anything in my power to protect the young Princess"

"Now you must go, my dear friend as I fear we have little time left" Novijk sounded softly

"It has been an honour to serve you my Queen and my King" he bowed and put his arm across his chest in a formal salute.

"As it has been for us, to have been of your acquaintance Alexei" the Queen said handing the very small and delicate Bellona into Alexei's arms.

"Goodbye my beautiful daughter, maybe someday we can meet again in the afterlife" she said with tears in her eyes "I wish for you to have this, when the child becomes of age I want you to give my royal seal to her, so when she returns, and she will, our people will recognise her as their leader" she said handing the ring to Alexei.

"You will grow up to become a beautiful woman, my child. Use your gifts wisely and never forget where you truly come from" Novijk said kissing the babe on her forehead.

Alexei turned and left the royal couple's bed chambers and walked down the long halls to the exit of the ice palace which marked the centre of their kingdom.

He used magik in order to conceal the child from any prying eyes, the King and Queen had specifically kept her pregnancy a secret from their whole kingdom so the Jiyan would not find out of the Princess' existence and come after her in the human world.

Alexei was greatly honoured to guard the future Princess of their kingdom, he knew that once the Jiyan finally took over, the King and Queen will perish. The Jiyan were not known for their mercy. He also felt honoured that the King and Queen spared his life by sending him to the human realm, but he knew that the only reason was because he had traveled to the human world countless times before, after all he was half human, half Nijian.

Through the castle walls there was a temple dedicated to their goddess, the goddess of ice and snow named Skadi. In this temple was a portal located between an arch at the very centre of the temple. The arch was made out of a rare marble, in which their fair goddess was carved. He snuck through the quiet temple, as there was a few remaining Nijian left, mainly children who had lost their parents during battle.

A little boy toddled over "Alex" the boy said gleefully raising his arms up high as if asking to be picked up "Not now Aleksander, go back to Liah" he said sternly to the four year old boy, the boy ran off towards his mother and Alexei shook his head in despair. Aleksander would have been a very powerfull warrior, if it wasn't for this war. His father Gaij, was a very powerfull man indeed, a very powerfull scocerer who was also very skilled when it came to combat but unfortunately he was killed in battle a few weeks ago.

He walked up to the grand portal and stepped through.

Not a month later did the Jiyan lead their final attack in which the castle fell along with it's people and the King and Queen.
