Chapter 20

-Darcy's POV-

As soon as Niall and I got to the hospital I ran straight to the front desk.

"Do you know where Daniel Brooks is?" I asked the lady at the desk. She nodded.

"He is in room 113, but we aren't allowing visitors yet. May I ask your relation?" She looked up at me.

"I'm his daughter." She nodded.

"I will tell you as soon as we will allow, but in the mean time could you please wait in the waiting room." I nodded and thanked her before walking down the hall to the waiting room and sitting on the right beside Niall.

"Aren't you going to see Louis?" Niall asked me confused.

"That isn't who I'm here for, Niall." I looked down, my fingers becoming interesting.

"What do ya' mean?" He asked me even more confused than before.

"When I said my dad, I meant my biological dad." I signed and he looked at me like I had 10 heads.

"But... Wait.. He kidnapped you and attempted to kill Louis, and you still want to see him, and also did I mention, oh.. I don't know.. He beat you almost your whole life?" I nodded ashamed.

"But, the reason I ran to his side after I shot him was because... He told me he loved me and he was proud of me Niall." I told him looking straight into his beautiful and confused blue eyes.

"He told you that?"

"Yeah.. He said he was threatened to do those things to me.."

"Who would have threatened him to beat his own daughter?" The nurse at the front desk came to my line of sight.

"I'm about find out."

"Darcy Tomlinson?" She called and I stood up walking to her with Niall trailing behind me.

"Yes?"

"You can go in now. He's down the hall on the right in room 113." She smiled while pointing to the right towards my dad's room." I nodded and made my way towards 113.

"Maybe you should stay outside." I told Niall while still walking towards his room.

"No, what if he hurts you again?" He asked.

"I'll be fine. I'll call you if I need you, babe." I smiled up at him and he nodded sadly.

When I finally found room 113 I gently knocked on the door, I waited until I heard a 'come in' before opening the door and walking in. I looked at my father to see him lying in a hospital bed with needles through his skin and he's wearing a hospital gown. He has his blankets up to his waist and he opens his eyes right when I sit down in the chair beside his bed.

"Hi." He says and smiled sweetly at me.

"Hi." I slightly wake over to him and smiled as best as I can. "How are you?" I asked him.

"I'm good. Sore but good. How are you?"

"I'm fine." I lied. He nodded and smiled.

"What did you mean?" I asked looking up to him. He made a confused face.

"What?" He asked.

"You said you were threatened." He nodded in realization and signed.

"Well, there is a lot you don't know Darcy." He told me looking so ashamed.

"What do you mean?"

"Avery isn't your real mother.." Shock etched my face.

"What?" What does he mean mom isn't my mom?

"Your mother and I separated when you were born. I remarried when you were 2." He told me and I was frozen in shock.

"Oh my gosh." A tear slipped down my cheek. 1 of 2 people that ever cared about me was lying to me this whole time..

"What's my moms name?" I ask.

"Denice."

"Where is she?"

"I don't know. After your birth she left and I haven't seen her since." I nodded.

"Who threatened you?" I asked him.

"I'm not sure." he shrugged nonchalantly.

"What do you mean 'I don't know'?" I asked him. How do you not know who is threatening you...??

"Well, they only emailed me. But they knew everything about Avery, you, and me. She threatened if I didn't start abusing you then they would kill us 3 and all my family and friends." He shifted in the bed and fiddled with his fingers.

"Oh.." Was all I could say. Who could be that terrible as to do that?
