“Are you girls ready to go?” Mrs. Hemingway shouted up the staircase.
“Yeah, one minute mom!” Spencer yelled as a reply to her mother.
I grabbed my old, raggedy, black tote bag and swung it over my shoulder. I woke up later than everyone else in the house, so I didn’t have much time to get ready. Hopefully the director didn’t mind me wearing a sloppy bun as a hairstyle.
I went down the staircase in a rush, nearly tripping over the untied shoelaces of my black Chuck Taylors. I rushed out the door and hopped into the driver’s seat, waiting for Spencer and her mother. I shuffled through my bag to find my Mylo Xyloto CD and popped it into the disk player. I wanted to blast to zone out from everything else, but I knew it would be distracting to my driving.
After a few minutes, having listened to the songs Mylo Xyloto and Hurts Like Heaven, Spencer and her mother finally got into the car.
“I would like to drive today, if you don’t mind. I’ll be super busy with filming and I need all the driving practice I can get before I turn 16.”
“Not a problem, sweetie.” Mrs. Hemingway replied kindly.
“Thanks.”
“Anytime.”
I turned the key, revving the engine before I backed out of the driveway. And off we went to the studio to my first day of filming. The drive was calming, thanks to the Coldplay music that played in the background. Coldplay = probably the only artist that can truly calm me, make me happier, and get rid of my nerves.
“What’s it like?” I asked Spencer, trying to concentrate and keep my eyes on the road through my nervousness.
“What do you mean?”
“Like, filming and stuff.”
“What it is like to be someone else other than yourself?” she said with a slight chuckle.
“Well, yeah, just everything.”
“It can be a bit weird at first, but you will definitely get used to it. There is food set out usually and a water bottle to keep near you, since you will probably get very thirsty from talking a lot. It is fun to be someone else and to watch everyone else be a different person. You will meet lots of people and get to know some of them well, as you will probably have to. Especially since you are intended to be a long-term character based on the script.”
“Thanks. That helped I guess.”
“Helped?”
“Yeah, I was just a bit curious and nervous. I just want to be prepared.”
“If you try to be too prepared, it might make matters worse, but don’t completely avoid thinking about it. If that makes any sense.” she assured.
“It made sense,” I said, laughing a bit, ‘“thanks for the “advice”.”’
“No problem.”
“Take a right turn at the stoplight.” Mrs. Hemingway stated.
I soon merged into the right turn lane, slowing down majorly. It had to have been at least five minutes that we waited in traffic before we could actually turn, people honking behind me and elsewhere to express their anger. I went down the road for a very short time before I had to turn right again, pulling up to the studio gate.
“Identification card please.” the man stated through a speaker, sitting on a little seat at a small desk in his even smaller glass room.
“Of course,” I said, shuffling through my bag nervously, “here it is sir.”
He shortly handed my card back with a gesture of reassurance. He motioned his hand towards the gate, signaling I could go through as the gate doors opened. I slowly pulled in through the gate and into the lots, looking for studio 3. Finally spotting it as Mrs. Hemingway pointed at the front windshield, I rolled into a parking spot and put the car in park.
“We’re here.” I said nervously, yet somewhat excited.
“Sure are.” Spencer bantered, slightly chuckling.
I stepped out of the car and slammed the car door, slinging my bag over my shoulder. I strolled up to the door and almost doubted opening the door, walking inside slowly, trying to look as confident as my original audition.
“Wow, this is a great studio and set up. You certainly are lucky to have gotten this job.” Spencer somewhat whispered to take my mind off of the nerves.
“Yeah, I can’t believe it. It seems amazing.”
“I am sure you can’t wait to meet your special cast member.” Spencer poked.
“What?”
“Oh, come on. Don’t act like you don’t know what I am talking about!”
“You mean Sam?”
“Ooohh, you already know his real name!”
“I signed a contract and I was kind of told who I was going to be working with for a majority of the time. He is just another cast member.”
“Wait, did you say Sam?”
“Yeah, Sam Daley. Why?”
“You don’t remember?” Spencer questioned.
“No…what are you talking about? Are you crazy?”
“Oh my god. You don’t remember, do you?” Spencer slightly laughed in disbelief.
“No, and I’m not sure where this is leading or what you are talking about either…”
“Okay, so basically when you were younger and first started watching this show, you kind of had a crush on him. You were pretty young I guess and I know you don’t remember much about before you were ten and stuff, but how could you forget that?!”
“Who? Sam?”
“No, Frosty the Snowman. Of course it was Sam you ding dong!”
“I had a crush on him?”
“Most indeed. And now I bet it will come back. With his break on the show and all, you forgot about it I suppose and now I will bet you twenty bucks you will start liking him again. Especially since you will ACTUALLY be on set with him!” Spencer claimed.
“Oh come on, he couldn’t have been that great.”
“Oh yes he was, and I am sure he definitely still is, if not more.”
“Well, we shall see then.”
“No, I know you will like him!” Spencer said laughing.
I walked towards the set and noticed a chair with my name on it, also seeing one with “SAM” placed to the left of mine. Great. Now I am even more nervous that I will end up meeting him randomly as he sits down when I am not ready and Spencer will be right and I start to remember him okay I will stop now. Calm down. Okay. Calm. Not nervous, just calm and collected.
