At the end of dinner, we all stood and made sure to push in our chairs. If we didn't mistress wouldn't let us leave.
Gavin of course was being an idiot and forgot that he was supposed to put his silverware on his plate, and somehow it literally flew at him. His steak knife knocking his ear before loving itself into the wall behind him. He stood shocked for a minute. Then he carefully pulled it out and placed it on his plate.
His glare turned to Loyise who simply strolled along as if nothing happened. I smiled as Louise smirked.
"How you doing?" She asked me and I looked up at her.
I was stuck in a wheelchair after all....had I forgotten that life altering detail....I'd like to forget.
I'd kill to walk, run, jump, swim. But sadly, my legs from the knee down on the left and mid thigh down on the right were paralyzed in the accident that killed my parents. After that...well...things went downhill. Let's just say I'm not a normal paralyzed teen. None of us are. But that as a story for another time.
Shane looked at me and smiled as Louise rolled me down the hallway. It felt nice to know she was there and that she wouldn't tip me. But...I felt helpless.
I could hear lights slightly bending and metal screws fighting their placement as Louise passes. Shane was somewhat of a pyromaniac. And he pulled a lighter out of his pocket and flicked it on and off.
Louise pushed me into my room and I waved as they walked off to their own rooms. I rolled over to my dresser and changed into some pajamas before lift long medley into my bed and opening "To Kill a Mockingbird"
My favorite book at the moment. I heard a knock and looked up. Gavin was at the door. He waved and walked off. I smiled. He was nice.
I looked at the words. Trying to understand every complex meaning of every syllable.
Then the bell rang. I hoisted myself into my chair and rolled off to Louise's room. She opened the door with her old wheel shoes and we set off, hardwood floors were the best. She was rolling behind me and we were racing. She tripped. I laughed. And then Shane flew by me and smiled.
"Damn." I mumbled. He was on the couch before anyone else. I rolled over and hoisted myself onto the couch next to Shane and Louise jumped on the other side of me. Gavin walked in in sweat pants and a cheesy tee-shirt with a dinosaur warring hipster glasses that said "extinction? That's too mainstream"
We all sit together. Like a real family.
