I stumbled in the door, like I did every night at that time. I laughed as (Y/F/N) said something about acting drunk behind me.
"Goodnight," she said as she left. I threw my purse on the couch, rubbing my exhausted eyes. I heard footsteps and knew it was Max.
"Hey," I said casually, glancing at him while I took my heels off one by one.
"When is this gonna end?" he asked. I looked up at him, furrowing my eyebrows.
"What?" I wondered.
"You go out every single night," he stated, crossing his arms across his chest. I looked down at the ground. "How do I know you're not cheating on me?" he asked, raising his voice a little. My eyes widened, looking back up at him.
"Why would think that?" I hissed, feeling almost betrayed. I thought he trusted me.
"You go out, every single night," he repeated, looking annoyed. I had never seen him this upset. It was usually just an eye roll, but never this. "How do I know it's not a new guy every night?" he asked, getting louder and louder with each syllable. I flinched, trying to think about how to retaliate. I fumed for a few seconds, thinking.
"Huh?" he bellowed, still standing a few feet away. I finally burst. All those times he refused my date offers, all those times he went out with his friends, and it finally made me break. I guess he never knew how much it hurt me, so I did it back. We had been growing apart for a few months now.
"You don't even love me anymore!" I exclaimed, covering my mouth straight afterwards. A few sobs took over my body as he stayed silent. I looked up at Max again as a tear fell from each eye.
"(Y/N)," he whispered, sounding hurt and looking less threatening. I hugged myself, stepping away as he tried to step closer. Shaking my head, I took in a shaky breath.
"I felt so stupid because you never wanted to spend time with me," I barely choked out. All the months of hurt came pouring out. My heart was pounding.
"I know this is all my fault, so I'll just leave," I decided right there, grabbing my purse and the keys.
"(Y/N)," he said again, attempting to make me stop.
"Is that all you can say?" I yelled, causing the room to grow silent once more.
"I'm sorry I acted that way. I don't know what got into me, and I'm sorry," he said quietly. I twisted my lips and furrowed my eyebrows.
"The apology is too late. Our trust is gone. I'm sorry," I spoke, grabbing my things that were in the vicinity.
"But-" he started.
"No, Max," I cried, trying to get away before I broke down completely. I pivoted towards the door, stalking away as fast as I could, feeling another tear fall. I felt him grab my wrist, expecting something like that to happen. He turned me around, but I tried to get away.
"Max! Please! I just need my space for-" I felt his lips on my mine for the first time in forever. For a few moments, I contemplated pushing away, but it all felt so right.
I decided to pull away just to get a word in.
"I think we can try again," I said without thought. I looked up at him, watching the smile erupt on his face.
"I would like that," he smiled quietly, pulling me into a hug. I sighed, grateful that neither of us were very temperamental.
"I love you, Max," I spoke to him. He didn't look surprised at all.
"I love you, too, (Y/N)."
Hope you liked it :)
