Zacky POV

~Time Jump: 3 days later~

‘I’m not leaving you’ he tells me. Yeah right. I’ve been sitting here in my apartment for three days. I haven’t heard anything from anyone, except Johnny. I’ve texted him a few times to say that I’m still alive and okay.

I’ve lost motivation to do anything. I feel…empty. I haven’t really moved from my bed for the last few days. Not to even to eat. I just get up to go to the bathroom and then go right back to bed. I won’t lie; I’ve gotten into a bad habit while being alone… I’ve started cutting. I’m not proud of it, but I needed a release, and people always say that it works. And it does.

After Brian left me the other day, I couldn’t help but feel like he was lying. Like he didn’t really want to stay friends. I’m falling into my daily pattern of thinking and crying when I hear a knock on the door. I heave a sigh and drag myself out of bed.

I open my door. “Johnny?” What’s he doing here?

“Hey Zacky... I-uh I wanted to make sure you were really okay and not just lying to me.” He says, rubbing the back of his neck and looking me up and down. “You don’t look too good man.”

“Gee, thanks.” I say.

“No, like you look sick bro. Have you been eating?”

“Uh, yeah.” I lie. He’ll tell Matt if he finds out I haven’t been, and I don’t want Matt to worry. I’m not worth it.

He raises an eyebrow at my response but says nothing. After a few seconds of silence, he claps his hands together, making me jump.

“Sorry… Anyway the reason I came over here I because Matt’s having a barbeque at his place and he wants you to be there. We’re all just gonna cook and hang out.”

“Who’s we?” I ask. I want to know if… if he will be there.

“You, me, Jimmy, Matt, Brian and the girls. Just like always. Why do you ask?”

“No reason…” I respond. “Can you wait for a second? I need to change and grab some stuff from my room.”

“Yeah no problem man. Matt said to tell you to bring a bathing suit as well. They’ve heated the pool in advance.” Shoot, I’ll have to think of an excuse not to swim.

“Okay, I’ll be right down.” I run upstairs, change my clothes and grab a bathing suit, my cell phone, and my keys before racing back downstairs and following Johnny to his car. We head to Matt’s house and everyone else is already there.

“Hey Zacky! Haven’t heard from you in a while bud.” Matt says, giving me a hug and a big smile. I fake a smile back and spew some nonsense about being sick. “Oh, well it’s good to see you’re feeling better.”

I move farther into the backyard and see Jimmy and Ruby laughing at the table with Val, Matt’s girl. Brian’s sitting on the end of a lounge chair with a girl on his lap. The same girl from a few days ago, are they a ‘thing’?

“Hey Johnny, Zacky. What’s up?” Jimmy asks, coming over to us.

“Not much man.” Johnny responds. I nod in agreement. Brian seems to notice our presence, and stands up, lifting the girl and putting her back down on the chair.

“Hey guys.” He says, looking at Johnny. Why can’t you look at me?! I want to scream. But I don’t. I just stand there quietly until we all go sit at the table.

“Zacky you’re being awfully quiet down there.” Val observes.

“Yeah… getting over being sick I guess.”

“Oh, well if it’s not too much trouble, could you and Brian go get some more drinks from the garage?” she asks, smiling.

“No, no trouble at all.” I say, standing up. I walk to the garage with Brian following behind. I go over to the shelves and look up. Of course the only drinks would be on the top shelves. I stand on tiptoe and reach upwards to grab a case. I hear Brian gasp quietly next to me and I realize that my shirt has come up. I pull the cardboard case down quickly, hoping to cover my hips and stomach.

He reaches out and takes the case from me, setting it on the ground. “Zacky… why?” he asks.

I can’t answer. He pulls my shirt up a little bit and looks at all the cuts, running his fingers over them. All of the sudden I’m angry- why does he care?! This is his fault!

He looks up at me again and asks “Why?” for the second time This time I don’t hold back.

“You.” I say. He looks surprised.

“M-me?” he says.

“Yes you. You’ve been telling me that nothing will change and that we’re gonna be close just like we were! But that’s not true is it?  In the last three days I haven’t heard a single thing from you! I’ve spent all this time in my room, crying and… and wondering why you left us. It’s stupid and irrational and I’m probably an idiot for even thinking like this but that’s how I feel!!! YOU LEFT ME BRIAN!” I scream, the both of us crying now. “You don’t care anymore.” I whisper.

He reaches out, but I turn and run away, hearing him call my name behind me. But I’m not going back.

Love it? Hate it? Let me know. Hopefully you enjoyed it! :)
