Okay, okay. I know that wasn't a few days but I'm gonna let you know now that there is literally no update schedule so yeah it's a lie if I say a week. Enjoy!!

The car sped up well past the speed limit of 60, the trees becoming a blur of green and brown. Nico kept glancing at his rearview mirror, knuckles white from gripping the steering wheel too hard.

"What's up?" I asked, eyeing his hands.

He glanced at me then looked at his mirror before replying, "You see that silver Mazda behind us?" I twisted around in my seat and saw a silver car a ways back. I nodded.

"Well, there's at least three empousai in there, and they've been behind us for a good 30 minutes, so I think we're in trouble."

I mouthed, "oh," when the Mazda suddenly sped up, getting closer by the second. "Faster!" I yelled.

Nico sped up even faster, going at least 80 miles per hour. He reached behind his seat and pulled out a dagger about the length of my wrist to elbow.

"It's imperial gold," Nico explained. "Stab a monster with it and they disintegrate." I nodded and took it from his hands.

His eyes flicked to my window. He cleared his throat and said, "You know what, Rose? Why don't you try it out? There's an empousa at your window."

I turned, and sure enough there was a girl with flaming red hair running alongside the car. She kept pace pretty well, despite the fact that one of her legs was a golden prosthetic and the other one looking like a donkey's.

Wait, what?

I rolled down my window and reached out to tap her shoulder. "Hello!" I said brightly. She smiled to reveal very large, and very real fangs. I gulped.

"So," I leaned out the window a bit. "Is it true? I heard being a vampire really sucks."

The empousa glared at me. Damn, she's still keeping pace. "I am not a vampire, thank you very much." She sounded a bit out of breath though. "And yeah-" She stopped talking, finally realizing what I said and stared at me in shock.

I grinned. Then I put the dagger to good use and stabbed her. I rolled the window back up, replaced the dagger in its sheath and turned to Nico. "Did you hear my pun?" I asked.

He sighed and said, "Yes, Rose, I did.

"Did you like it?"

There was silence for a minute for a little while. "Yeah, it was pretty good for this occasion," he admitted.

I fist-bumped the air before being slammed into the door as Nico took a sharp left.

"Are we almost there?" I complained, gently prying my now-bruised arm off the window.

"Yeah just a few more miles and-" Nico was very rudely interrupted as the empousai ran their Mazda into the back of our car. Thankfully, it pushed us forward faster. However, Nico lost control of the steering wheel and swerved off the road and into a tree.

I guess I passed out because the next thing I know Nico was dragging me away from the car, shouting my name. He propped me up against a nearby tree and crouched in front of me, concerned. I groaned and lifted my head, dazed. "The hell happened?" I asked.

Nico laughed, then muttered, "I hate empousai."

"Oh don't worry son of Hades," a sweet voice said from behind him. "We hate you too." I looked over his shoulder trying to identify the voice, but my vision was blurry.
