Despite the fact that there's music thumping and people talking, I'm barely registering any of it. As cliche as it sounds, when I'm with Tristan, I barely notice anyone else. We're at yet another party organised by James, and even though I can't actually see him anywhere, it seems to be going fairly well. I've been bombarded with questions about what's going on between us, and I'm more than happy to answer them by saying that we're boyfriends. Everyone's been really supportive, though I guess that's partially down to the fact that literally none of them liked Josh.
Despite the fact that I'm actually meant to be in a relationship with him, I also can't find Tristan. I'm walking to search for him when someone stops me by grabbing my shoulder. "Hey." Tristan says before I can even ask.
I huff, pretending to be annoyed. "I was worried about you. Don't wander off like that again."
"Sorry." says Tristan, laughing. "You love me really."
"Mmm." I reply vaguely, standing up on my toes to kiss him. He's so tall (and handsome as hell) that I actually find it a bit difficult. He kisses me back lovingly, and I smile into the kiss as our mouths move against each other's.
Suddenly, we're interrupted by a cough. We break apart to see James' brother Max standing there. "Hey." he says. "Want to see something funny?"
"Obviously." I say, and Tristan nods eagerly.
"Come with me then." Max says, so we follow him. We head up to the other end of the garden, to where we can see a couple making out behind the shed. I stare for a second and then realise that it's James. I guess Max just wants to make fun of his brother.
The couple move slightly, and suddenly Tristan snorts with laughter. I clap a hand over his mouth. "Shhh!" I whisper. "What's funny? It's just James snogging someone."
Tristan is failing to hold in his giggles. "Look properly!"
I do so, then cover my own mouth in shock as I realise that it's Connor that James is making out with. Max smirks at the sight of me and Tristan desperately wanting to laugh hysterically, but not being able to. In the end, we have to run to the other end of the garden before we can't hold the giggles in any longer.
"Oh my god." I say weakly, wiping tears from my eyes. "I always knew that James secretly liked boys."
"Not so secretly any more." Tristan smirks. "Do you think they'd been drinking?"
I look up to the end of the garden, where James and Connor are walking away from the shed, clearly trying to pretend that nothing happened. "No. Look at the pair of them." Once we've stopped laughing, we head over to make conversation with some other people. Some of them have never met Tris before, so it feels weird introducing him as my boyfriend. Even if this is the first meeting between them, most of them are in agreement that he's a million times better than Josh.
Tristan blushes, and I can't stop thinking about how cute he looks. After a while, James bounds over, and me and Tristan share a knowing look. "You look happy." I comment. "Anything interesting happening?"
"Not really." James says, smiling. I can see straight through that- he's a terrible liar.
"Ok then." I say, winking. "I believe you."
James ignores this, but he bends down to give me a hug. "Thank you for coming." he says. "I hope you're enjoying it."
I smile. "It's ok. Your parties are always fun, except when they're at my house."
James laughs again. "Yeah, sorry about that."
He lets go of me and I decide to make things awkward by asking "Have you seen Connor by any chance?"
James blushes. "Uh, no, I haven't, sorry." Then he scuttles away quickly.
I snort with laughter. "He's so onto us."
"It's not like they were being discreet." Tristan points out. I laugh, reaching out to take my boyfriend's hand. Boyfriend. I love saying that. Tristan Evans is my boyfriend, and I'm so lucky to be able to be the person that can say that. The sun's slowly beginning to set, but I think this party will go on a while. At least it's the summer, so not many people will be disturbed. My life was turned upside down in the last few months, but I don't regret any of it. It wasn't quite what I was planning, but it was perfect.
