Your World, My World

Chapter 29: Your World, My World, Our World

My eyes gently flutter open as they suddenly lock with rose-colored eyes that stare at me only inches away from my face. I flinch backwards, but I can't seem to move. I glance up at the locks around my wrists that are chained to the ceiling - exactly like I was in the very beginning.

I stare back down at her pale, gleaming face. Her thin lips stretch into a gentle smile as she flicks her silvery-white bangs away from her crimson eyes. "Oh, so you finally woke up. Do you remember who you are?" Suddenly, her smile disappears and is replaced with an expression of worry.

"I... I don't know." I tell her. As soon as those words escape my mouth, her face drops into disappointment and agony. I laugh, which immediately makes her glance up at me in confusion. "Of course I know who I am. I'm your Michaela and you're my Clarith, Haku."

Her face suddenly lights up as it replaces the surrendered look with that of pure relief. She reaches up and unlocks both of the locks around my wrists without even touching them, without any key. I glance at her hand which holds the small remote with a single button. She notices my transfixed gaze and hands it to me.

"Mikuo gave this to you, right?" She asks as she stares at me. I snap my gaze away from the button and lock eyes with her. "Wait... what happened? Did we take over the lab? Where's Neru? Where's - "

She puts a single fingers to her pale lips shushing me. I stare blankly at her as she simply nods. "Everyone's fine. We defeated them - but just barely. Gakupo Kamui and Gumi Megpoid used a gas bomb that got rid of all of them, even the ones with gas masks on. They can be really clever sometimes."

A faint smile dances across my lips but suddenly vanishes as I ask, "And Neru? What happened to her?" Haku smirks at me and dusts off her shirt. "Did you not see me whack her with that baseball bat? Maybe not, you were already losing consciousness. Well, from the impact of the hit, I sort of..." she stiffens obviously uncomfortable about what she has to say before finally giving up and mumbling, "...well, she busted her head really bad against the tile. I guess all of my anger over my best friend Michaela's death got the best of me when I heard that she's the one who killed you." She shrugs as if it's nothing.

My eyes widen. "You were the one who saved me?" I ask. She plays with the hem of her shirt for a while before saying, "Ah, you see... I didn't exactly save you. You died in that room from blood loss, plus she stabbed you in your heart." Once she sees the blood that drained from my face, she quickly stumbles to say, "It's okay though! I knocked her out right before she erased your data!"

I blink a few times before faintly whispering, "She was going to delete me...?" Haku nods. "Yes, but you're lucky I managed to sneak into that room long before you arrived to wait for her to come. She left to go work on the new Mikuo, and before I could hit her before she hurt you, you were already in the room."

I immediately wrap my arms around the girl and pull her close to me. I rest my head on her shoulder as a smile graces my lips. "You saved everyone... Haku. You saved everyone." I can hear her gape before she hugs me back. "Yeah... I guess I did. That's not bad for someone who isn't even a Vocaloid."

My eyes snap open as I slowly pull her away from me and stare into her eyes. "You're... not a Vocaloid?" I ask, my voice trembling. She smiles gently. "Would you like to know why Neru wanted to kill you so badly?"

I blankly stare at her. "Because she was jealous...?" Haku laughs lightly. "That's only half of the story, Miku." Haku links her fingers with mine before saying, "Neru and I aren't exactly real Vocaloids. We're just like Mikuo - we are figures based off of data from you." She doesn't seem to notice me gaping as she continues, "Neru never accepted that fact, no matter how many times we told her. I think it's because the servants told her otherwise.
