KHAMYA's POV

"This is your stop. The Ambassador will meet you at this entrance." the driver said.

I noted a man exiting the building, and it took me a few minutes to recognized him. He looked different when I saw him in Africa. He wore a white lab coat and dress shoes propped firmly on floor. Even at a distance his eyes looked lifeless—like two gray stones.

"Is that Ambassador Weslie Mckinley?" Ryne asked.

The driver looked up. "Well, I'll be-" He turned and gave us an ominous smile. "Speaking of the devil."

Uncertain what to expect, we stepped from the car. Then the man accelerated towards us and offered a clammy hand. "Dr. Rafiq and Dr.Greyson. I'm glad you arrived here safe and sound."

"Yeah, after that exhilirating ride that almost separated me from my soul." In my thoughts and instead smiled at him in reply.

"You look different!" Ryne said.

Mr. Mckinley touched his coat out of instinct response. "Yeah, 'bout this, Everyone who comes here should wear this, it's a protocol. You'll have yours after your physical examination."

"Physical examination?" Ryne asked.

"Yes, Dr.Greyson. It's also a protocol in this lab. Everyone will undergo physical examination, retina and mouth scanning, all the biometric scanning for security purposes." He explained.

"That's a hell of an examination!" Ryne exclaimed.
"This is the main lab doctor, so rules are strict and we take a lot of precautions since we deal hazardous matters in here. I'll explain the details later, for now, Welcome to UNFRC!"

Ryne and I give him a blank look and he cleared his throat.

"UNFRC or United Nation's Fringe Research Center. This is the highest, and top secret laboratory around the globe. So you're both lucky to be invited."

"F-fringe, as in pathological science?" I stammered.

"Yes, Dr.Rafiq. We deal from nano techs to biggest haz mats and other matters that are considered fringe as of now. But, all our physicist, geneticist, virulogist and all employed scientist are great and do miracles almost everyday." Mr.Mckinley proudly said and we started to walk. "This way to the scanning area doctors." He said and make another sharp turn.

Overhead, the roof shimmered from the light of the sun, casting rays of geometric patterns in the air and giving the room a sense of grandeur. Angular shadows fell like veins across the white tiled walls and down to the marble floors. The air smelled clean, sterile. A handful of scientists moved briskly about, their footsteps echoing in the resonant space. We followed past what seemed to be countless hallways branching off the main atrium. Every hallway was alive with activity. And despite the bewilderment, we just silently followed him.
