Why Did He Do It?

Penelope and Manny finally decided to sit. The funeral was so depressing for those who only knew the father from sight. Ladies were crying, their grandmother also managed to come. There was an unusual look in Manny, Penelope, and the mother's eyes. They would just stare at the big box, where there lie the person they would call father.

"I'm sorry for your loss, babe.", said Jackie with a voice Penelope knew, wasn't sincere. Obviously, Jackie knew what had happened with her father.

Penelope not aware of the others behind, said with no consideration, "You know, I really don't care.", gasps filled the room as if Penelope had said something profane, which in that case she had.

"What did you just say?!", said the grandmother. Penelope just looked away from her grandmother and walked away. Manny went behind her (Manny was older than Penelope). He decided it was time for them to get away from all the tension.

"I have to tell you something...",said Penelope, "...he took my virginity when I was about 9 and when I planned on telling mom he told me he would do something bad to all of us.", she couldn't contain the anger and started to cry with rage.

"Don't worry I understand what you went through...", said Manny with shame, "because I went through the same things you did...".

Penelope was concerned of how this had affected him. She said, "I bet you never told anyone.", she said feeling bad because she had told her girlfriend Jackie.

"I did.", he said, "I told mom, but like I told you she never listens.". This time tears were rushing from his eyes. He felt impotent, he couldn't do anything to prevent her from suffering like he had.

She became lesbian after all that, she had vowed not to let a guy touch her in her life.

They went back in and Penelope had a red rose with thorns in her hand, she squeezed in the place of the thorns, bleeding her hands. She dropped the bloody rose on the coffin. Saying her last words to him, "Bye, bye daddy.", she said cynically.

The mother just stared she was unable to comprehend. Why did she do that? What was going through her mind? So many questions yet none were answered to her, why? What was she missing?
